Job Description

Applications are invited for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow in Critical Care at Whiston Hospital. The Critical Care unit at Whiston is an innovative multidisciplinary department that is led by a multidisciplinary consultant body comprising 6 consultants in critical care and base specialties as well as Clinical Pharmacist embedded within the unit. A consultant in clinical biochemistry and microbiology joins the weekly multi-disciplinary meeting and the mortality and morbidity meeting.Excellent exposure is offered to a wide range of adult surgical, medical, trauma and burns patients. We have expertise in all forms of renal support, mechanical ventilation, trans-thoracic echocardiography and ultrasound guided line access. We hope to be able to offer a programme of echocardiography training, aiming for FICE accreditation for appropriate candidates. A novel educational aspect is trainee access to the ESICM online critical care tutorial system. There is an active audit, education and research programme.We are looking to appoint doctors who are contemplating a career in Emergency Medicine, anaesthesia, medicine, surgery or another acute speciality who wish to develop further their Critical Care skills further before application. No prior critical care or anaesthetic experience is necessary but candidates will have been expected to hold at least FY1 and 2 year competencies or equivalent. This post has not been approved for training, but the post holder will have the same educational opportunities as approved post holders. Full training will be provided.Due to the short term nature of the role/service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through the shortlisting stage.
