Job Description

Alfred H Knight has an exciting opportunity for a Global Outsourcing Lead to join our team.The Global Outsourcing Lead is a role responsible for establishing new mine-site laboratory services from the initial tender and information gathering process, through to final delivery of service to the client.A key purpose of the role is to also take a lead in the delivery of internally generated laboratory infrastructure projects as AHK expands into new and existing geographical locations. The role involves working across all levels of the organisation, takingthe lead in mobilising all support functions necessary in delivering new laboratory services.Based in the UK, reporting to the Laboratory Director, the role is a global function and requires frequent and extended travel to on-site locations. Our outsourcing service is very much client facing, with the post holder expected to take responsibilityin all aspects of the initial tender bidding process, working in consultation with the Groups business planning and analysis functions. On successful bids, the planning, mobilisation and implementation stages form the core responsibilities of this role throughthe coordination and management of key stakeholders assigned to each project.ABOUT USAlfred H Knight is a totally independent, family owned business spanning five generations.   • Supports the EMT in the delivery of successful outsourcing tender submissions to agreed deadlines set by the client.
  • Manage all aspects of new outsourcing laboratory implementation from proposal to handover to the functional and operational teams, in accordance with Group Quality and Technical standards.
  • Supports all business development activities and be client facing to represent the laboratory set up process.
  • Works with the regional teams to negotiate and manage contracts with mines, joint ventures and ad-hoc commercial opportunities that require analytical services.
  • Responsible for ensuring minimal deviation from the identified project critical path through to meeting client expectations and managing tight deadlines.
  • Supports any established AHK laboratory operations and new key business projects/initiatives under the direction of the Group Laboratory Director & Group Technical Manager.
  • Once established in the role, supports the technical management of the Groups outsourcing sites in agreement with the Groups Technical Manager.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND WORK EXPERIENCERequired Skills and Knowledge
  • Deep understanding of laboratory mine-site outsourcing operations and associated methods of analysis and their core laboratory instrumentation.
  • Experience in setting up new laboratory operations, whether these be client focused or AHK internal start-up, or refurbishment projects, in accordance with ISO 17025 and all other important recognised international standards relating to laboratory, samplingand sample preparation service provision in agreement with the Groups Technical Manager.
  • Proficient in all systems associated with the role including Microsoft Office, Project Management packages, g suites, LIMS packages, analytical software packages.
  • Able to set-up, manage and spot deficiencies in ISO 17025 compliant Quality Management Systems.
  • Effective people management skills.
  • Able to influence and persuade others.
  • Able to critically review technical information and spot root causes and suggest solutions.
  • High attention to detail, highly organised, having a systematic and enabling approach.
  • Operate in a troubleshooting, consultative style of management.
  • Ruthless in meeting deadlines and driving a project management team through to successful delivery of service.
  • Able to work and operate independently, a self-starter, who has the necessary experience to make key decisions with minimal guidance.
  • Exceptional communication skills in all formats across all levels of the organisation.
  • Able to work across the organisation and engage and motivate all functions.
  • Highly committed to exceeding the expectations of internal and external project stakeholders.
Required Work Experience
  • At least 10 years experience and a proven track record in mine site laboratory implementation and laboratory start-up projects.
  • Experience of working in a fast paced laboratory environment in accordance with ISO 17025 guidelines and working within the Groups internal Quality Control functions as defined by the Groups Technical Manager.
  • A proven track- record in Laboratory Management from an operational, quality or technical perspective.
  • Ability to operate in a client facing commercial/technical capacity and recognised as the key figurehead.
  • A proven track-record in project management to ensure the delivery of on-site laboratory services.
  • Ability to work in a cross functional capacity to deliver a service which meets client expectations as a minimum standard.
Required Qualifications
  • Degree in Inorganic analytical chemistry or a related discipline.
Desirable Qualifications
  • A recognised qualification in Project Management
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
  • Frequent overseas travel, including extended overseas secondment in order to deliver a project, possibly at short notice, is a key requirement of this role.
