Job Description

Customs Specialist / Manager Prenton, Wirral £40,000 - £55,000 Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm An exciting ‘brand new’ role has arisen with a leading transport and haulage association for a Customs Manager. The role is to lead and develop business strategy and to work on customs related projects.The ideal candidate will have a customs management background in road freight across either import or export and have experience in a customer facing role within the transport and logistics industry.The Candidate;

  • Experience of customs entry completion within the United Kingdom is required
  • Experience using NCTS & EMCS preferable
  • Previous background of working in the ro/ro environment is preferable
  • Working knowledge of the UK tariff and Union Customs Code essential
  • Experience of leading and managing a Customs Brokerage team
  • Experience of managing a customs brokerage team
  • Proven leadership and ability to liaise professionally at all levels
  • Good people management skills, with experience of recruiting new employees and dealing with employee relations issues
  • Good, professional communicator and able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • ‘Attention to detail’ is very important to ensure the business is compliant and passes HMRC audits, including risk identification and mitigation.
  • Previous experience within a freight forwarding, logistics or customs clearance position
  • Good organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize workloads.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Competent decision making
  • Must have a flexible approach
    • Duties and Responsibilities;
  • Ensuring that all clearance processes are completed in a complaint and timely manner.
  • Manage a team of Import / Export / Shipping specialists.
  • To ensure the company is fully compliant with the requirements of HMRC and other relevant bodies. And ensure good query resolution
  • Support and advice customers on all international import / export requirements especially with new processes brought upon by Brexit.
  • Develop operations knowledge and process for TIR with NCTS, either with our business partner or independently
  • Develop operations and understanding for T1 & T2 , including management of CCG and control systems, either with our business partner or independently
  • Develop operational understanding of the requirements for imports/exports of SPS goods re, including IPAFFS / TRACES and offer potential solutions
  • Develop operational understanding and requirements regarding licenced goods or niche shipments , e.g., chemicals, livestock, removals and offer potential solutions
  • Consult, advise, and support multiple projects around the brokerage
  • Create, develop, and advise strategy for Customs Brokerage as part of the wider project team
