Job SummaryReporting to the Head of Product Engineering, the Finance Engineering Manager will lead a stream aligned product team, who look after our Finance application stack. Working with Finance and the Data product engineering team, you will act as a servant leader for the product team, be self-organised, working autonomously & deeply data driven. You will be focused on continuous learning and improvement, coaching your team tohigh performance. You will need to be motivated, collaborative, thoroughly experienced in leading adoption of agile and DevSecOps ways of working. Youll be a critical conduit for prioritisation of backlogs and optimising the team for flow of change. Workingat every stage of a product lifecycle development, you will put our customers at the centre of the teams thinking and decisions. Responsibilities

  • To lead, coach and inspire the Finance product engineering team, improving ways of working including driving agile adoption and DevSecOps, optimising for flow of change
  • Foster collaboration within the team, work cross-functionally with peer engineering managers, Product Owners and operational colleagues to achieve high-performance outcomes, deliver end-to-end solutions for customers
  • Enable a culture of continuous improvement, engineering excellence, and innovation
  • Provide capabilities that ensure Finance meet operational regulatory compliance
  • Operation and maintenance of the financial systems, ensuring their stability, scalability and performance, achieving agreed service levels
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and standards and manage operational risks across the Finance product engineering team
  • Aid in the definition of the technology runway & deliver modernisation within the IT estate
  • Agree integration points into the wider Canada Life Group
  • Use data to inform decision making and targeted improvements
  • Develop and execute effective strategies for people development, talent and succession planning
  • Manage the team budget, with a focus on reducing the cost of ownership
  • Effective management of third-party suppliers to deliver great service and value for money
  • Define and track departmental and team-level OKRs (Objectives and Key Results), driving engineering team accountability and ensure alignment with Canada Life strategic goals
Knowledge, skills and Experience Technical
  • Demonstrable understanding of finance & core policy administration systems and the associated regulatory principles, within financial services or similar sectors
  • Experience of LakeHouse, Microsoft automation technologies, AI and ML over a LakeHouse platform, compute on demand-based designs
  • Familiarity with a variety of programming languages and tools including Python, SQL, R and tools like Data Bricks, Azure Data Factory, Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI and proprietary modelling technologies like Prophet
  • Experience in managing the operation and change management of critical finance systems, ensuring stability, performance and protecting service
  • In-depth working knowledge of various Engineering techniques, across all aspects of engineering including Cloud, Application, Data, DevSecOps, Automation (Deployment &
  • Testing), Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment
  • Shift left on security
  • Use of monitoring and alerting tools
