Canada Life UK is transforming to create a more customer-focused business by providing our customers with expertise on financial and tax planning, offering home finance and annuities propositions, and providing collective fund solutions to third party customers Job Summary Reporting into the Head of Engineering, and working directly within Product teams, the Engineer Manager will manage a cross functional agile team, responsible for building and running their application stack. With a hands-on approach, the Engineering Manageris expected to guide and help the team as required, ensuring the team deliver the desired outcomes. Working closely with Product Owners, the Engineering Manager will act as servant leader for the team, ensuring agile frameworks are followed (such as Scrum),facilitating daily standups and sprint planning, being a critical conduit for prioritisation, work assessment and managing blockers/issues to deliver value and outcomes. The role holder will also take an active role in managing the total cost of ownership of their application/software stack, working with the Product Owner ensuring that finances, licensing and vendor management are all pro-actively management inline with companyframeworks and policies. They will also be responsible for day to day management of individuals, carrying out regular one-on-ones, performance reviews and personal development plans What Youll Do Leadership

  • Lead and manage a cross-functional engineering team fostering collaboration, and ensuring high-performance outcomes.
  • Responsible for effective strategies for people development, talent management and succession planning throughout their engineering team
  • Create a culture of continuous improvement, engineering excellence and innovation, and the adoption of modern technologies and best practices for your assigned engineering team
Delivery
  • Own agile rituals, such as the role of Scrum master
  • Collaborate closely with your team product owner and business teams to help define, prioritise and implementation of new features and capabilities for the systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Add value to the engineering team by actively contributing to the delivery of business outcomes. For example, hands on coding, configuration, etc
  • Collaborate with peer Engineering Managers to ensure end-to-end solution delivery and integration.
  • Drive the agile product engineering process, including requirements gathering, solution design, development, testing, and deployment, to deliver high-quality software solutions
Quality
  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of their systems, ensuring their stability, scalability, and performance in accordance with service level agreements. Effectively managing operational risks across their engineering team.
Finance and Supplier Management
  • Financial control of their assigned Engineering Team cost centre(s), including managing and differentiating between run and change elements,
  • Supplier management for their Engineering Team
Measurement
  • Define and track departmental and team-level OKRs (Objectives and Key Results), driving engineering team accountability and ensure alignment with targets and strategic goals

Qualifications
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
