The key responsibilities of the role include: Provide pro-active and collaborative business partnering to senior management on tax related matters and input to strategic initiatives that span CLUK and the wider Group. This includes company-wide projects such as organic and inorganic growth projects Responsible for and manage the VAT profile of the UK VAT group, striving for VAT efficiency and process improvement Responsible for UK tax input and advice on delivery of new working patterns, global mobility/secondment arrangements and the employment tax footprint of the CLUK Division Identify and manage tax risk in business-as-usual and project-related initiatives covering policyholder, employment and indirect tax as well as the transfer pricing footprint of the CLUK Division Direct CLUK divisions tax compliance obligations for filing and reporting to tax authorities covering VAT, PAYE related matters, SAO and UK Tax Strategy publication Manage, coach, develop and motivate a team of qualified finance and tax professionals Job PurposeBuilds and maintains a tax efficient environment, adhering to our UK Tax Strategy methods, though proactive advice, issue identification and resolution, as well as relationship management with key business stakeholders and project managers, HMRC, Group taxcolleagues and Finance teams. Key Accountabilities1) Provide pro-active and collaborative business partnering to senior management on tax related matters and input to strategic initiatives that span CLUK and the wider Group This includes company-wide projects such as organic and inorganic growth initiatives. Identify and deliver tax advice on strategic business initiatives on behalf of the UK division and UK tax impacts for the wider group. 2) Tactical/BAU tax initiatives Responsible for and manage the VAT profile of the UK VAT group to mitigate downside risk, maintain and improve efficiency of existing intra-group service model and UK VAT recovery of input VAT through e.g., PESM negotiation and implementation, affiliate andthird-party supplier reviews; Responsible for tax input and advice on delivery of new working patterns, global mobility/secondment arrangements and the employment tax footprint of the CLUK Division. Ensure transfer pricing methods are fully considered andcomplied with during and after intra-group service agreement negotiations. Provide support to the business on Operational tax matters, including liaison with HMRC on business transformation, RTI reconciliations, customer compensation. 3) Manage Tax Risk Responsible for ensuring the identification and management of Tax Risk in both business-as-usual and project-related initiatives in line with Board approved UK Tax Strategy, covering policyholder, employment, indirect tax and transfer pricing footprint of theCLUK Division 4) Tax calculation and reporting obligations to Taxation authorities Directs the UK divisions tax compliance obligations for filing and reporting to tax authorities in respect to relevant tax legislation, e.g., VAT, PAYE related matters, Senior Accounting Officer and UK Tax Strategy publication, to ensure compliance. Driveefficiencies through adoption of automation and process improvement. Responsible for dealing with disputes with HMRC and other tax authorities on behalf of UK Division entities for those taxes, including negotiated resolution and timely appeals processes. 5) Team Management Manage, coach, develop and motivate a team of qualified finance and tax professionals in order to optimise the performance of the team in line with the Divisions goals. Develop the skills and knowledge of team members so that they have the expertise to achievethe business requirements, as well as maximising individual development. Acting as a role model for our values and embedding these across the team. Desired Knowledge / Experience / SkillsDetailed knowledge of some of the following: operational taxes (including Chargeable Events and personal portfolio bond legislation) employment taxes and related legislation Pension administration tax legislation; Policyholder tax on life and pensions policies VAT legislation within Financial Services including partial exemption, cross-border and property transactions Transfer pricing methods and their implementation on intra-group cross-border supplies. Significant experience of UK tax legislation covering employment, Operational Taxes or VAT at a detailed technical level. Working understanding of Transfer Pricing methods and experience of application to cross-border intra-group supplies Ability to communicate complex tax technical matters understandably to non-tax specialists. Ability to manage relationships with tax authorities and provide clear and comprehensive answers to enquiries. Working collaboratively and effectively in multi-disciplinary teams.
