Job Description

A secondary school in Pontypridd, Rhondda Cynon Taf, are looking for a Full Time Science teacher to join their faculty in January to assist with additional classes and interventions. This role is until the end of the academic year and ideally, if you and the school form a great relationship, you will be automatically front runner to fill the role of an existing member of the department who retires in July 2021

  • THE ROLEBiologists, Chemists and Physicists are Needed. The school will structure your timetable around your specialism and use long-standing members of the department to support more difficult classes and a science specialism which you identify as your lesser area of knowledge. YOU WILL BE EXPECTED TO BE CAPABLE OF TEACHING KS3 IN ALL SCIENCES, even if they are not your specialism. The role will be teaching mainstream classes as well as low ability groups and individuals in catch up and booster sessions.The role encompasses a combination of all general Science up to KS3 as a minimum, but KS4 is preferable with a specialism in KS5 as you will be able to support the schools thriving sixth form. HOWEVER, although this is desired criteria, the school are fully aware that their priority is a specialist who can provide much needed continuity and support to the pupils, particularly those in transition years and those struggling with target GCSE gradesWELLBEING & OTHER ASPECTS AFFECTED BY PANDEMICDue to the overwhelming change and strain put on pupils and schools, the head of wellbeing along with the Head of Department and Head Teacher, would prefer somebody well versed with wellbeing and emotional support, or who is approachable and wants to ensure the pupils feel supported and safe in schoolVIRTUAL TEACHING:The successful applicant will also be able to teach online should lockdown procedures come into place throughout the term. If you are not overly familiar with this then we can support with training andLOCATIONThe School is situated in a low socio-economic income area. There is a high percentage of free school meals and pupils who are in foster care. As a result, the school are looking for someone who has a high level of empathy, determination and a desire to see every child succeed.The percentage of A*-C grades in GCSE core subjects have improved by 30% in the past two years under a new headship. A recent Estyn report has commended the school on its progress in behavioural ethos and attitudes towards learning.
