Job Description

nmcn work in partnership and collaboration with our customers, to deliver major built environment and critical national infrastructure projects across the UK. Our specialist engineering and construction teams bring multi-sector innovation and technical skill – from building and highways, to large-scale water networks and treatment plants.Through our unique offering, providing services from feasibility and design, to construction and handover, our Water business provides ‘Full Asset Lifecycle Thinking’ across our projects, in both the clean and wastewater environments. Always ensuring we are supporting our customers with innovative outcome-based solutions and an exceptional experience. We currently deliver infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects for 10 of the largest national water sector companies.A vacancy has arisen for a Trainee Planner operating across the nmcn businesses at South West. This role would be particularly suited to individuals currently employed as Site Managers or Project Engineers who are interested in specialising in this aspect of our contracting business.Reporting to the Planning Manager, you will work within a multidisciplinary Mechanical, Electrical & Civil Project Delivery Team. You will be responsible to develop and update resourced programmes for allocated projects within the department. You will be responsible for challenging and aiding the Project management team to help deliver the project and make target gains to overall programme duration and delay mitigation utilising software packages such as Microsoft Project & P6. (Software Training available for the right Candidate).What you’ll be doing day to day

  • Development of construction baseline project plans in collaboration with the project delivery team
  • Collaborative Planning
  • To be pro-active and forward looking to support stakeholders in strategic and management decisions
  • Investigate and discuss potential gains or recovery actions by reviewing the programme / construction sequence to improve programme delivery with the Project Team.
  • To challenge project team to identify and correct potential delay situations
  • Correctly report delays and or corrective actions in timely manner, in order to make all parties aware of any issues that may affect the completion or quality of the project or future projects.
  • Site visits and programme audits to ensure validity of programme updates
  • Identify and track all changes or potential changes to the agreed construction scope, ensuring that the NEC 4 contract principles are applied and that the impacts are given immediate visibility to appropriate stakeholders, (training available to the right candidate)
  • To ensure accurate and timely planning, including progress reporting, effective measurement of key dates and milestones, stretch targets and critical path analysis
  • To receive and understand all project programme data and integrate all construction activities to mitigate potential resource and workface clashes
  • Ensuring Compliance with nmcn Management Systems
  • Compilation of Project and Programme Information
  • Site Programme reviews to ensure accurate recording of progress
  • Monitor and Update Project and Programme Information
