Job Description

Theatre Manager Location: Plymouth, Devon Salary: Circa £38,000 per annum, commensurate with skills and knowledgeFull Time (40 hours per week) Permanent Theatre Royal Plymouth is one of the UKs largest regional producing theatres. We engage and inspire our communities in Plymouth and the South West especially those who feel the arts arent for them. We do this through understanding and influencing the cultural,social and educational needs of our community, engaging and creating talent.2021/2022 is a year of recovery and transition for TRP including the recruitment of James Mackenzie Blackman as Chief Executive to lead the charity from 2022. Our build-back responds to Arts Council Englands Lets Create strategy that provides us with theopportunity to renew TRPs vision and creative strategy in a way that is meaningful and relevant to our diverse communities.This is a rare opportunity to join TRP in a leadership role as our Theatre Manager, responsible for the in-person experience TRP provides across two sites which normally welcome over 500,000 per annum.Key responsibilities include:

  • Create the best possible welcome for all visitors
  • Continues the development of a dynamic, responsive Visitor Experience team that meets the expectations of our guests in line with our values.
  • Develop and implement a cohesive visitor experience strategy aligned with our vision of deepening relationships, ensure effective metrics are in place to measure success and support future investment.
  • Continues to rebuild the revenue and net contribution from bars and retail and reintroduces a profitable food offer.
  • Youll set the standard and key performance indicators that deliver excellence across all in-person experiences front of house including bars and retail, at Stage Door and at Reception.
  • Youll be responsible for the safety of our visitors, develop procedures and SOPs.
  • Youll be a key contact for visiting companies, in-house productions, and other users of TRPs spaces. Youll be part of the Business Continuity Team planning for and managing scenarios as they arise.

  • Youll have a strong track record of setting standards and managing and leading teams to deliver excellence for visitors, ideally within a high-profile cultural organisation or visitor attraction.
  • Experience of developing profitable revenue streams across multiple outlets including, bars, retail and food services etc.
  • Experience of planning and operational delivery in line with strategic objectives.
  • Youll have experience of developing strategic plans for short, medium and long term investments to improve the visitor experience and maximise profitability.
  • Experience of budget control and revenue forecasting.
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Ability to lead complex projects and work with both internal and external stakeholders.
