Principal Mechanical Engineer - Gunnery Location: Plymouth, Devon + Hybrid Working Arrangements Compensation: Competitive Salary + Benefits Role Type: Full time / Permanent Role ID: SF54994 At Babcock were working to create a safe and secure world, together,and if you join us, you can play your part as a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Gunnery at our Devonport Royal Dockyard site. The role As a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Gunnery, youll have a role thats out of the ordinary. Youll lead mechanical engineeringactivities on several contracts, providing guidance and technical assurance to the engineers in your team, and liaising with project teams to enable delivery on the contracts. The mechanical engineering activities range from obsolescence changes, 3D Printing,to upgrading naval platform capability across Mission Systems contracts on equipment including 4.5 Gun, Phalanx, Gun System Automation, T31 Gunnery, and future bid opportunities. You will be a critical part of ensuring the Royal Navy has the weaponry capabilityit needs. Day to day, youll be involved in: The oversight of mechanical engineering activities, ensuring quality output in accordance with engineering processes. Developing design task proposals, requirements, and verification activities from a customer statementof need. Performing root cause analysis of failures to identify improvements. Managing tasks from concept through to implementation to defined safety standards, cost, programme and quality as an individual or as part of a team. Reviewing and approving documentationand drawings to deliver a high-quality output. This role is full time, 36-hours per week and will be based at Devonport Royal Dockyard with hybrid working from home arrangements. Essential experience of the Principal Mechanical Engineer - Gunnery: MechanicalEngineering Principles including materials, welding, stress analysis and manufacturing techniques. Supporting Project Management by identifying risks, creating a plan and reporting updates and advising on technical aspects of the project. Able to supervise,co-ordinate or work within a team providing guidance where appropriate across multiple projects and disciplines. Ability to use systems engineering design processes, and preferably adapt them to suit an application. Qualifications for the Principal MechanicalEngineer - Gunnery: Chartered Engineer status or evidence of progression towards Chartered Engineer status. The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC security clearance for this role.
