We have built on the success of the UK MoD Type 31 Frigate and have secured contracts for frigate export variants (AH140) with overseas customers. As well as supportingexports of frigates the engineering team is actively working on other ship newbuild and life extension programs around the world, from small fast attack craft all the way up to aircraft carriers.We are looking to significantly expand our engineering and ship design teams in order to exploit these opportunities as well as our continuing work on in-service Naval platforms. We have base offices in Bristol, Rosyth or Plymouth, and offer flexible working with office attendance and travel to meet project requirements.The difference our new Principal Marine Structures Engineer will makeAs a Principal Marine Structures Engineer, youll have a role thats out of the ordinary. This is a highly prestigious position within our complex shipbuilding programme, developing designs through concept and early-stage design as well as supporting thebidding process.Day-to-day, you will be responsible determination of global loads (Still Water Bending Moment, Wave Bending Moment and Shear Forces) from classification societies rules and regulations. Determination of local loads and scantlings (including midship sectionand other critical sections) from classification societies rules and regulations. Determination of hull girder strength from classification societies rules and regulations (ESA, RSA, SDA and FDA).You will design and substantiation of Category A and B seatings and foundations to meet military andcommercial requirements. Preparation and approval of specifications, technical reports and substantiation calculations. Leadership of design teams and liaison with production teams, classification society representatives and other stakeholders (including leadingdesign reviews).You will lead the development of innovative design solutions and processes. Lead the implementation of health, safety and environmental requirements. Lead the maintenance and improvement in quantity standards of outputs.In addition, you will belong to the wider engineering capability group and will have the opportunity to support other projects in different roles within your discipline with a focus on longer term career development.Essential experience
