Principal EstimatorSF32990Devonport Royal Dockyard, PlymouthAbout the roleWere looking for a Principal Estimator within the Warships business unit to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. Were a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security. You will support & deputise for the Estimating Manager and be responsible for the day to day management of the estimating team and the delivery of estimates for the Warships Business Unit. The scope of this role includes generating estimates for the allocated programme work tenders, commercial opportunities, in contract growth, development of estimating norms, and provision of information to support management decisions and benefits tracking. What do I need to do the roleYou will have an HNC/Degree or equivalent level in an Engineering / technical or business subject or previous demonstrable experience. We would also like you to have experience in the following areas:•You will be responsible for the production of multi-disciplined labour and material estimates, and through working closely with the procurement team, ensuring that all material pricing, subcontract and plant hire estimates are adequately covered.•You will be responsible for identifying and rolling out suitable training & development to the team to provide SQEP resources to meet the demands placed on the estimating section.•Deputise as agreed with the Estimating Manager for negotiating with the customer, within a delegated financial authority.•Be proactive in managing the estimating requirements in accordance with the provisions set out in customer ITTs/RFQs etc. What else do I need to know•The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving Security Check (SC) clearance.•We are happy to talk about flexible working.
