Youll get to expand your experience by working on Research & Development projects across a range of products, which means that if you like variety then youll be well catered for.Of course autonomy is key in this role, meaning that youll have the opportunity to utilise your knowledge of materials science, standards, engineering principles, and practices to identify and advance material solutions with a long term view of working onpossible future applications.Initially the experience youve gained in research or industry over the years will be put to great use by providing support to the business and team of around 300 in engineering and manufacturing in the evaluation of special processes that include heat treatmentof steels, chemical processing, and coatings for products that are used within Aerospace, Space Applications, Vacuum Technology, Medical Systems, and Defence. MetallurgyTypically the scope of your role includes material characterisation (Interpret mechanical, chemical, micro/macrostructure and physical properties), failure analysis (physical and chemical properties), material and process selection (evaluate component requirementsregarding fitness for purpose, form, and function etc), documentation, and QA. Your understanding of the application of material standards in particular stainless steels and bearing steels coupled with knowledge of special processes including heat treatment of steels, chemical processing, and coatings mean you will be able to initiateinnovative technology solutions and see them being applied to future products.Youll be working for a forward-thinking business who continually review their strategy based on global trends & demands and adapt accordingly.
