Job title: Locum Speciality Doctor in OphthalmologyLocation: PlymouthPay: Negotiable Hours: Locum Cover 2 days per week (6 months)Type: Agency Temporary / LocumRef: 0009About the Job:We are looking to appoint a specialty doctor in ophthalmology for two days a week (flexible by agreement in advance). The post will cover Urgent Care and some general / cataract clinics as required.The Trust is the main ophthalmic centre for the district, with a catchment population for secondary work of approximately half a million. The Trust provides some tertiary services to the population of Devon and Cornwall - Oculoplastic, Cornea and Vitreoretinal Surgery, and there are further opportunities to extend the present service in tertiary roles.The department is currently served by ten consultants and supporting medical and ancillary staff. As of January 2013, they relocated to a new purpose-built unit housed within Derriford. The Trust has its own theatres and day case unit and its own outpatient’s department.The post is intended for applicants who have at least 4 years of clinical experience in the field of ophthalmology, are willing to further their knowledge and skills, and are happy to pursue high quality eye care and improve our cost-effectiveness. We expect potential candidates to have successfully passed recognised exams, i.e. M/FRCOphth, M/FRCS (ophthalmology), FEBO or similar. We would therefore expect the applicant to be competent at independently running general and urgent care ophthalmic clinics, and to participate in sub-speciality clinics, laser treatments and theatre lists. There will be the opportunity to develop further clinical, teaching and research skills. The appointee will be required to work with his/her colleagues in providing a service in Ophthalmology which is of a high quality and which meets the government set waiting list targets and the Trusts quality standards.The appointee will be expected to take an active role in the training of junior doctors and nursing and ancillary staff both within the Trust and Externally.
