Job Description

An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a hardworking and pro-active Imports Custom Specialist to join our highly reputable retail clients Imports Department. Based in their Head Office in Plymouth, as the successful candidate you wouldbe dealing with the shipments in excess of 15,000 containers a year. This is a full time permanent position, with the possibility to work remotely with some office attendance being required.As the Imports Custom Specialist, you would be a highly experienced and motivated individual, with proven Customs knowledge to join and enhance the team and the wider business, whilst developing new best practice for the future. The successful candidate willenjoy a challenge and problem solving, will be a team motivator, and will work best when under pressure. This role requires someone with the knowledge, confidence, and commitment to understand the business needs and drive its future progression.The Import Custom Specialist will need to have excellent attention to detail, who can demonstrate strong organisational, communication and IT skills. As an Imports Customs Specialist, you will be working closely with the Import & Shipping Manager to review and implement classification, clearance, and compliance checks to future proof the growing business. You will also engage with other key departments toassist in new operational requirements (ROI & EU shipments).With at least 2 years proven experience, as the Imports Custom Specialist you must have in-depth working knowledge of customs matters, including rules of importing, valuation of goods, tariff classification and origin preferences. As the successful Imports Customs Specialist, you must have proven experience within the Import/Export sector with specific knowledge in the following areas:

  • Tariff Classifications (experienced with the online TariffUK & EU)
  • Customs Clearance Procedures including entry instructions
  • C88 & E2 documentation detail
  • Deferment & MSS reports
  • Customs Warehousing procedures (including CFSP)
  • Importing and Exporting documentation requirements (Rules of Origin, Tariff Preferences & Anti-Dumping declarations etc.)
  • Customs compliance & certification requirements
With it being an extremely busy environment, the ability to multitask whilst maintaining accuracy and high productivity is essential. Responsibilities of the Imports Custom Specialist will include:
  • ROI / EU documentation checks (Ireland/Brexit)
  • Keeping up to date with latest HMRC and EU notices & regulations
  • Monitoring clearance compliance and performance in accordance with the CFSP / Customs Warehouse compliance requirements
  • Supporting customs entry preparation & instructions (additional checks and audits to meet the CFSP / Customs Warehouse compliance requirementsincluding Origin Preferences and document declarations)
  • Checking & Monitoring of Customs EntriesC88/E2/Deferment & MSS reports, for compliance checks (ensuring adjustments actioned accordingly)
  • Developing & maintaining own Customs knowledge, whilst contributing to the Customs & Product knowledge within the Imports Team and wider business
  • Direct management and development of import team (currently 8 import team members working within this area)
  • Providing training sessions, support and knowledge of Importing/Exporting requirements to other areas of the business where necessary
  • Working with the Import Manager to develop current Customs best business practices to support future growth
