Working in a mixed small team of civilians and Royal Navy staff, the post holder will have a critical role in meeting the support and operating requirements of the Royal Navy and the UKs allies from the South West, reaching worldwide.A chunk of this support is delivered through the waterfront Maritime Support Delivery Framework (MSDF) contract. The post holder will manage and act as the Alongside Base Services Intelligent Customer Team Leader for all matters associated with that contract (and in time the new Future Maritime Support Programme (FMSP) contract) including, the provision of over side services, facilities, utilities and wharf management. The post holder will also manage and support other contracts. The common theme being that they all support the main focus of generating ships and submarines ready for Operations.The post holder will be required to make frequent visits to ships and submarines alongside or in Plymouth Sound. Such visits will involve climbing up and down ship’s ladders / gangways and internal stairways.To meet the job description, the successful candidate will already have extensive knowledge of the engineering and support requirements of warships, auxiliaries and submarines. The post holder will be expected to skilfully and wisely use the provided IT and IM tools to achieve the required outcomes. This office based work will include contractual and financial aspects, as well as - working at pace - making decisions that will affect ships, submarines and their crew. The post holder will be expected to consider, in consultation with commercial experts, alternative ways of working with partners and contractors to identify more efficient outcomes, balancing cost, quality and turn around times.The post holder will spend periods of time outside the office, visiting for example vessels. Such visits will include engine spaces, and appropriate PPE will be provided. The post holder will be expected to approach this crucial role with an open mind and to display a positive approach to the transformation opportunities, as Devonport prepares to deliver support to the next generation of Royal Navy platforms. ResponsibilitiesInclude person specification and essential criteria - to help a candidate decide if they should apply Responsibilities for the post holder include:1. Adhering to the local Policies on Diversity and Inclusion.2. Managing the routine running of Alongside Services Coordination Centre, to ensure the efficient co-ordination of amenities, facilities and utilities to ships and submarines. 3. Verifying that services provided are in accordance with all current regulations and authorizations.4. Monitoring the booking and allocation of fuelling, tank cleaning and sullage services with a functional responsibility to the local Marine Services Superintendent.5. Attend meetings on behalf of the Alongside Services Manager (ASM), and deputise for the ASM as required. 6. To be Line Manager for the two Alongside Services Intelligent Customers. 7. To supervise the local building controllers.The post holder will be responsible for supporting the strategic work in improving resilience and reliability in the Naval Base outputs; enhancing value for money from the various contracts with industry providers; increasing staff resilience and the sustainability of Devonport; all contributing to improving the delivery, certainty and increased resilience of warships, auxiliaries and submarines. The successful candidate will already have exceptional knowledge of Royal Navy requirements, which will have been gained from working in, or closely alongside the Royal Navy, for a period of time.
