Job Title: FSS ILS Principal EngineerSF32808Location: Devonport, PlymouthBusiness Unit: WarshipsOverall Department DirectionThe MoD Future Solid Support (FSS) Vessel Project will deliver 2/3 Platforms to be operated by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, and required to support deployment of the Royal Navys Carrier Strike and broader Task Groups. The Ships will be fitted to carry ammunition, dry stores and spares. The Project will align with the approach in Type 31, which is a pathfinder and cornerstone of the National Shipbuilding Strategy.Main Purpose of RoleThe FSS ILS Principal engineer is responsible for developing the ILS Plans to ensure the Platform achieves the highest level of capability within an acceptable cost of ownership. The principles of ILS require a balance to be struck between the performance and supportability characteristics. The ILS Plans and approach will ensure the disciplined and unified management of all the activities necessary to produce a supportable system design and reasonable support capability to achieve a pre-determined set of measureable objectives within the acceptable cost of ownership. This role will include day to day administration and co-ordination of activities directly related to all contract deliverables and the delivery of associated FSS outputs:You will develop the FSS ILS Integrated Support Plan and implementation approach for the Head of Supportability, provide input and support to develop the initial cost model for FSS and ensure coherence across ILS and broader Supportability activities.You will deliver or contribute to the delivery of all supportability deliverables for FSS as directed by the FSS Head of Supportability and, as required, contribute to Supportability and Design Reviews.Required Knowledge, Skills, Experience and CompetencesEssential:You will require experience in ILS and developing the detailed plans and implementation; preferably in the Maritime domain and experience in developing a cost model.You must have the ability to work in a complex, multi-discipline team.You should have strong written communication skills; the delivery of well structured, unambiguous technical documentation and strong verbal communication skillsDesirable:• Experience of a Complex Warship support solution.• Previous experience of ship design and build projects.• Working understanding of appropriate ILS Defence Standards (e.g. 00-600, 00-45) and ASD S-Series of ILS specifications in particular S3000L and S4000P.• Working Knowledge of MoD Knowledge in Defence.• Working knowledge of Reliasoft, IFS and Vault.QualificationsDegree or HNC qualified in an engineering discipline (mechanical, marine, electrics/electronics or systems) or relevant experience at the discretion of the Warships Engineering Director / FSS Head of Supportability.Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered status.About Babcock InternationalFor more than a century, Babcock, the Aerospace and Defence company, has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly-skilled engineering services.
