Job Description

Working at the local authority based in Plymouth, Devon, this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and qualified Environmental Health Officer to contribute to the improvement and protection of health, safety and wellbeing in Plymouth through the discharge of the enforcement functions of the Office of the Director of Public Health.This role is to primarily undertake complex noise investigations but you may also get involved in other statutory nuisance issues and you may well become involved in some complex waste enforcement.This role is initially offered a temporary basis to cover for a period of approx. 6 months but may be extended beyond.In order to be considered for this post you should be have experience, knowledge and qualifications in the following areas:

  • Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of a range of legislation and in-depth relevant specialist knowledge
  • Understanding of investigatory procedures, evidential principles and court procedures (PACE, RIPA etc)
  • Practical experience in the relevant work areas.
  • Experience in the preparation and construction of evidential reports that will form the basis of court action.
  • Experience of providing technical and scientific advice, report and documents.
  • Experience of enforcement techniques and attending courts or committees.
  • Experience of working jointly with other internal departments and external partners.
  • You can expect an hourly pay rate in line with the agreed grade rate for this role up to £19.00 per hour based on a 37 hour week on a PAYE basis.
