Design & Safety Process Manager and XSAG Chair (Major Infrastructure Projects)SF32429Devonport Royal Dockyard, PlymouthStarting Salary: £43,445About the roleWere looking for a Design & Safety Process Manager and XSAG Chair (Major Infrastructure Projects) to join us at HMNB Devonport, one of the largest naval bases in Western Europe. Were a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.The Plant Management organisation is charged with the responsibility of the safe and effective operation and maintenance of these facilities, including the provision of governance over the complete range of nuclear significant activities undertaken therein.The Nuclear Site Plant Management team is focused on ensuring work across the site is undertaken safely and in accordance with our processes. The department is responsible for nuclear implicated cross-site services, including the provision of high integrity, high voltage electrical services across Devonport Royal Dockyard to provide shore supplies to submarines. In order to achieve this, the department maintains governance of an extensive distribution network consisting of control rooms, substations, transformers, frequency changers, high voltage diesel generators and the ancillary equipment.The Design and Safety Process Manager vacancy is an opportunity to join a friendly and motivated team of people who are proud to ensure that our work is compliant and safe. The role will be managed by the Nuclear Site Plant Manager and has a number of direct reports.The team will be encountering exciting new challenges in the coming years with the major infrastructure changes need to support our future business and new classes of submarines.The Plant Management Organisation has a proven track record for staff development. Individuals within the team will be given the opportunity to expand their knowledge and reach their full potential in support of local and strategic objectives.You will provide governance of all activities across the DRDL Nuclear Site, particularly focused on nuclear and radiological safety implications of the operation of all cross site services and submarine over-side services. Performing the function of the Cross-site Services Authorisation Group (XSAG) Chairman.This role comprises a number of areas of responsibility ranging from document approval to interfacing with the regulators, MoD/RN Nuclear Safety bodies and other Babcock stakeholders.Maintain Plant Safety Case interfaces, implementing Licence Conditions/Authorisation Conditions (LCs/ACs), Plant Safety Cases and ensuring appropriate Operating Rules (ORs), Identified Operating Instructions (lOIs) and Operating Instructions (OIs) are published and adhered to.To ensure continuity of all essential services to nuclear submarines and the support of nuclear facilities across the DRDL Nuclear Site and the MoD Authorised facilities.What do I need to do the roleYou will have the relevant Engineering Degree, recognised professional status or significant experience in a relevant engineering discipline and NVQ Level 4, Nuclear Plant Foundation Course and Nuclear Fundamental Course as well as Duly Authorised Person (DAP) CourseWe would also like you to have experience in the following areas:

  • Understanding of refit or submarine support requirements.
  • Understanding of Submarine Revalidation and Assisted Maintenance Periods
  • Facility and/or Plant Management experience.
  • Safety Case experience with respect to understanding and implementing the identified requirements and conducting compliance audits.
  • Knowledge of the services required by a nuclear submarine and associated facilities.
  • Event investigation experience.
  • Lastly you will need a working knowledge of the MS Office suite of programmes.What else do I need to know
  • The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving Security Check (SC) clearance.
