Job Description

Design and Construction Project ManagerUp to £38,000 per annumPlymouth2-year fixed term contract40hrs per week with no fixed working hoursTheatre Royal Plymouth is a registered charity, inspiring a lifetime of creativity for audiences, artists and participants throughout Plymouth and the wider region.We work for the theatrical industry in the UK and overseas and coupled with TRP’s own producing which puts us in a unique position whereby we are always learning, developing, and applying an assortment of theatre making and producing processes. This understandinghelps us apply both creativity and a realism to our construction process, influencing our dialogue with customers, suppliers, and other theatre professionals. This overview drives the management of our costing and accounting for the variety of projects whichwe are involved.This role is kindly supported by the Theatre Artists Fund.The Vacancy We are looking for a Design and Construction Project Manager to work closely with the Head of Project Development, managing projects, reporting back and ensuring a quality, timely delivery.This brand new 2-year development role demonstrates TRP’s commitment to our Project Development Department’s continued improvement and the creation of new opportunities.Key responsibilities:

  • To produce costings and set budgets for certain projects and inform other departments of the workflow as successful quotations are contracted and become live projects.
  • To produce or manage the technical and construction drawings and all specifications required to allow orders for materials to be placed and for the carpenters, welders, makers, and painters to be able to create the work.
  • To schedule and organise any appropriate specialist subcontracted freelance work, bringing additional skills into our core team when needed.
  • Apply project management skills through to final delivery into the venue including financial monitoring, client communications (as required), collaborative problem solving.
  • Develop costings for projects.
  • Establish and develop our client base.
Our ideal candidate:
  • A background in project management of scenic construction would be desirable but not essential.
  • A basic understanding of mechanical engineering automation and control systems for theatre.
  • A basic understanding and knowledge of a broad number of construction materials.
  • A good working understanding of Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Basic skills in Photoshop and various CAD software could be beneficial.
  • Have the ability to communicate technical construction information clearly to members of the construction team and external sub-contractors through various forms of information.
  • Some experience in a drawing office or workshop environment would be beneficial although not essential
  • The ability to effectively communicate design concepts to others.
  • Able to effectively manage your own time and work to project deadlines.
