Job Description

Exciting new opportunity to help fight Covid- 19!This opportunity for Laboratory Shift Managers requires individuals experienced in molecular biology methods. In this role, you will be working in collaboration with the Laboratory Managers, you will provide a timely, high quality, accurate and cost effective service. Directly managing a group of staff including Scientific, Technical and support staff to ensure the timely processing of patient samples, resulting in approximately 40,000 tests per day.Key components of the role include:

  • Assists and deputises for the Laboratory Manager as required.
  • To be responsible for planning and prioritising the workload
  • To ensure that all staff meet the necessary standards of speed, quality and accuracy.
  • Support and help to develop the training of the laboratory’s technical and scientific staff.
  • Ensure that the necessary standards of security are maintained.
  • To be responsible for the accurate maintenance of all records.
  • To possess highly developed, advanced specialist scientific and leadership skills.
  • Be able to identify abnormal or unexpected results and ensure prompt reporting, follow up and referral to medical staff as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all accreditation standards set by national bodies, including UKAS are met.
  • Participate in a recognised continuing professional development
  • Sets targets and standards for laboratory staff to follow.
  • This role requires the following experience and qualifications:Essential
  • Significant experience in a Senior role in a Pathology Laboratory.
  • Experience of Project Management
  • Knowledge of Risk Management, Clinical Governance and CNST
  • Hold an MSc in Biomedical Sciences or hold an equivalent qualification in a Clinical Pathology discipline or demonstrable experience.
  • Significant management experience
  • State registration with Healthcare Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of UKAS, audit and management
  • Desired:
  • Participation in the Institute of Biomedical Sciences CPD scheme
  • Advanced Computing skills
  • Experience of ISOFT iLab , Sunquest ICE and iCM Pathology IT systems.
  • Working knowledge of PIMS
