Job Description

Job description Are you a Cost Control/Finance professional inspired to work on sophisticated, complex and high-volume defence programmes If so, the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) have an excellent opportunity for you to join us at HMNB Devonport, Plymouth.As Cost Controller, you will support projects by ensuring costs are rigorously controlled and relevant financial and performance reporting requirements are met. You will manage a small team of Cost Control/Finance staff responsible for consistency and accuracyof cost information, ensuring all project costs are represented, controlled and maintained subject to plan.You will integrate with accomplished, multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders, migrating across several projects in the portfolio, gaining exposure to some of the largest engineering projects in the UK, full visibility of the dockyard and the opportunityto operate at the core of what we do. You will collaborate to solve challenges unique to our industry and, by linking with fellow minds and allies across the world, will provide a significant contribution to our success.At the SDA, continuous professional development is actively encouraged. You will have access to a defined development pathway and ongoing support to prosper. After 6 months of service, you will become eligible to apply for our Finance Internal Scheme (FIS).If successful, the FIS will allow you to study for a financial qualification such as AAT/CIMA. This scheme is open for applications once per year and provides individuals with the funding for the qualification and study leave.We operate a hybrid working environment, and the expectation is that you will attend site approximately three days per week. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourself with the site, team, and projects you will be workingon in more detail. When attending site, your primary place of work will be HMNB Devonport, Plymouth, Devon PL2 2BG.Please be advised that due to the nature of security, some of these posts are reserved for sole UK Nationals only.Responsibilities

  • Monitor project expenditure against approval and liaise with Finance and Accounting colleagues to ensure that the correct financial treatments are adhered to.
  • Work closely with the Project Delivery Team and industry to produce and report financial forecasts for current and future year forecasting including financial risk, providing accurate and insightful commentary, challenge and variance analysis.
  • Provide Financial input and information at the monthly forecast review meetings to empower stakeholder decision making. Communicating complex financial performance data in a simple and understandable way.
  • Act as the Delivery Manager for Cost Control Staff, providing coaching and development opportunities where appropriate.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance Business Partner (FBP) providing timely financial information for relevant Business Cases. Provide prompt evaluation of proposals, returning feedback to the PM and monitoring project cost spend against approval.
Person specificationTo be successful with your application, you’ll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
  • Previous experience of working in a cost or finance management environment, or suitable/relevant analytical discipline
  • Previous experience in cost or budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience in leading, coaching or professional development of others
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competencies and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
  • Cost Management Practitioner
  • Financial Planning, Reporting and Resource Allocation Practitioner
  • Delivering at Pace CSBC3
  • Communicating and Influencing CSBC3
