Job Description

Commercial OfficerSF33798Location: Devonport, PlymouthAbout the RoleWe are looking for a dynamic, ambitious and competent Commercial Officer to join our high performing team.This is a role within the Mission Systems business stream in the Defence Systems Technology (DST) business unit. The successful applicant will be a part of both the Information Systems and Critical Communications departments, offering an excellent opportunity to work on a wide array of projects. The role is based primarily in Devonport with necessity for offsite travel to customer meetings as required. You will also have the opportunity to work from home.Responsibilities

  • Lead as a Commercial department representative with regard to contractual and commercial issues for both internal project teams and external customers
  • Support the identification and development of opportunities for new business growth and take ownership of agreeing contracts
  • Implement tendering/contracting policies and procedures in support of the submission of Prime Contract tenders, tasking forms, and Contract Amendments to secure profitable and cash generative contracts
  • Prepare contracts and commercial elements of tender submissions, including reviewing Invitations to Tender, recommending bid/no-bid management approval, undertaking commercial evaluation against corporate contracting policies and presenting commercial and tender review documentation up to Group level
  • Review and negotiate Prime Contracts and Subcontracts within financial levels of authority
  • Negotiate and resolve claims and disputes both for and against the Company, within financial levels of authority
  • Monitor Prime Contract performance against contractual obligations, arrange contract close-out meetings and be responsible for resolving all outstanding issues/claims
  • Manage, support and develop department staff including graduates
  • Advise Project Managers/Business Unit Leads with regard to commercial issues
  • Act as a Trade Control Officer (TCO), responsible for providing export/import advice across the department and ensuring compliance with trade legislation and regulations
  • Qualifications and Experience
  • Education to degree standard, preferably in Business or Law
  • IACCM, MCIPS or an equivalent qualification preferable
  • The ability to analyse terms and conditions and write appropriate qualifications within limits of authority
  • You could be someone coming from a legal background looking to move into a Commercial Officer role, or someone with commercial experience managing contracts and tendering
  • Experience within the defence industry desirable
