Job Description

37.5 hours per week – permanent.An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of inpatient clinical Psychologist at Mt Gould Hospital, Plymouth. The Older Peoples’ inpatient service is a 25-bedded Service; Cotehele, is a 9 bedded ward focused on functional illness, and Edgcumbe, a 10 bedded ward specialising in dementia care.Our Vision: To be the very best at helping people to live well.Our Values: To always be: Kind...Respectful…Inclusive…Ambitious…Responsible.Our aims:

  • We pride ourselves on ensuring that psychological care for the elderly is valued, and that the post holder supports the ward team who work in this area.The post across both teams involves a variety of roles including assessment & formulation on admission, one to one therapy, group therapy, behavioural and neuropsychological assessment, training, supervision, facilitation of reflective practice with staff, contributing to discharge planning and offering teaching and consultation to residential homes prior to discharge.The post holder will also provide supervision to trainee clinical psychologists and undergraduate psychology students on placement.The post will suit a person with experience of working in Older Adult services inpatient or community, with an understanding of the importance of developing strong interdisciplinary relationships and a good reputation within an inpatient environment. Other important characteristics include an active working style, flexibility and a passion for improving patient focused and psychologically informed care.The successful candidate will join clinical psychologists specialising in the psychological care of older adults, and work closely together to continuously improve service provision.Our service and organisation has strong links with the University of Plymouth clinical psychology training course, and there is the opportunity to deliver teaching on the course should the successful candidate wish to pursue their academic interest and experience.There is scope for further training in a therapy of choice that would benefit our speciality.Livewell Southwest values its staff and makes investment in their development a priority.
