Job Description

CDM Lead Engineer, Contract, Defence , PlymouthThis position will support the MIP Chief Engineer in managing the discharge of Principal Designer Duties in accordance with The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015.The CDM Principal Designer Lead is accountable to the MIP Head of Design Authority (acting as Chief Engineer) in providing expert support and advice in how MIP discharges Principal Designer Duties in accordance with The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015.Responsibilities:-

  • Support the MIP Chief Engineer in managing the discharge of Principal Designer (PD) Duties in accordance with The Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM
  • Develop and manage plans for MIP compliance with CDM PD duties
  • Develop, implement and oversee on behalf of the MIP Chief Engineer proposals the MIP CDM PD organisation capability including arrangements and appointments to PD roles
  • Oversee competency of CDM PD organisation role holders and provide training where required
  • Work with project teams to review and agree the information that forms part of the CDM PD output e.g. PCI, DRA, H&S Files related to specific scopes of construction works.
  • Oversee communications with interfacing parties in the discharge of CDM PD duties e.g. CDM Client and CDM Principal Contractor and their organisations
  • Report on compliance with CDM PD duties: both organisational capability and progress in specific CDM scopes of work
  • Develop and support the CDM PD Community of Practice
    • Qualifications and Experience Requirements
  • A degree in an appropriate scientific, technical or engineering discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council.
    • Experience
  • Extensive experience in conventional health & safety regulations, risk assessment and relevant good practice in UK construction
  • Extensive experience in the application of CDM Regulations in the design and construction of major infrastructure projects;
  • Deep practical understanding and experience in the role of CDM Principal Designer
  • Broad multi engineering discipline experience;
  • Experience of working with engineering/infrastructure associated with submarine maintenance facilities;
  • Infrastructure/engineering experience wider than dockyard experience is desirable;
  • Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post and project requirements
    • Due to the nature of the position SC clearance is required
