Job Description

Job SpecificationFor: Purchasing Manager Meyer Scott Ref: VR/08293Pay Rate: circa £45,000 per annum - dependent on experienceLocation: Yaxley, PeterboroughOur client is a leading UK manufacturer within their field. . They supply several leading national distributors, main contractors and end users in the UK as well as being specified on projects in all major construction sectors.They are seeking a Purchasing Manager to join their busy team.Position Description:

  • The Purchasing Manager will be reporting in the 1st instance to the Supply Chain Manager and will be responsible for all procurement related activities carried out by the company and its parent.
  • Interacting with departmental managers and external sources to service and support the needs of the business
  • Deputise for the Supply Chain Manager in his absence.
Key Skills Required for Submission:
  • Proven track record in purchasing roles with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership position ideally dealing with importing products from the Far East, China, India, and other countries as well as sourcing in the UK
  • Have some experience in procuring but not restricted to some or all of the following: cast iron products and Steel raw material.
  • Be CIPS Qualified or working towards it.
  • Read and understand technical drawings
  • An understanding that travel in the UK and abroad is an essential requirement of this role
  • Be capable of thinking outside the box to achieve the company aims and needs.
Skills Required:
  • Highly organised and continually focused on attention to detail is essential
  • A born communicator
  • Setting KPIs and reporting back on them to achieve specific company goals
  • Ability to lead & set priorities/projects with minimal management supervision and bring to a conclusion in a timely manner.
  • Mentor a small team of Buyers to achieve company targets and goals whilst stimulating the teams efforts to improve on a professional and personal level.
  • Ability to understand and create where needed procurement contracts for strategic supply sources in the UK and abroad.
  • Be computer literate and good working knowledge of Excel, Outlook etc...
  • Be able to nurture and actively promote interactions within the various departments with each other and purchasing to deliver the results needed.
Experience Required:
  • Previous proven experience of launching new products or services preferably in the construction industry
  • Superb communication skills with the ability to converse at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders and be able to translate across cultures.
  • An ability to develop supplier relationship dynamics to react to changing market dynamics in the buyer / supplier relationships.
  • Be commercially savvy and manage spend to maintain and improve on budgetary needs.
  • Experience in purchasing internationally from order to arrival of goods.
Experience Preferred:
  • Experience of new supplier introduction.
  • Able to devise, manage and execute negotiations successfully
  • Leadership of process improvement initiatives
  • Knowledge of MRP & MRP II Systems
