You will have expert knowledge in international development including a specialism in an area related to our work (leprosy, global health, disability, mental health, human rights, etc.). This, along with your passion for research, will ensure advocacy messaging has a strong evidence-base and provides a credible case for support. You will understand how the UK Government (including FCDO) and other key decision makers operate and develop policies and will be able to navigate the corridors of power within the UK and internationally. With your excellent written skills, you will be able to write powerful campaigning materials suitable for use in the UK and in the Global South. You will have the ability to grasp the bigger picture and to work collaboratively with the Programmes Team and external stakeholders, including people affected by leprosy, to identify priorities for policy change. You will offer inspiration and insight into advocacy approaches based on your extensive experience of implementing effective campaigns. Recognising how advocacy can make transformational change for marginalised and vulnerable people, you will continually develop your knowledge on the most effective approaches to policy and behaviour change in different contexts, using this information to facilitate capacity development in the Global South. With at least two years working in a policy environment, you will have engaged in external policy discussions with Government/ international agencies, will have developed advocacy campaigns and presented complex information simply and powerfully to call people to action.Working with the Research and Policy Manager in the UK, global research experts, in-country partners, UK and International Universities and members of the programmes team, you will raise the profile of leprosy, create strategic partnerships and influence policy change. You will be required to travel overseas each year (when it is safe to do so), to undertake capacity development training and mentor partner staff. The Leprosy Mission England and Wales (TLMEW) is a leading international Christian development organisation with over 140 years experience and is part of the TLM worldwide family. Recruitment to roles within TLMEW includes, in particular, criminal record checks and the collection of relevant references. A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from joining us as an employee; this will depend on the circumstances of any offences. Safeguarding is our top priority in everything we do. Empathy with the Christian ethos of the organisation is essential, as is an ability to work with all faiths. For more information on this role, the work of TLMEW and application details please visit: Closing date: Friday 25 September 2020 at 9 amInterviews: Monday 5 October 2020 in PeterboroughThe Leprosy Mission, England and Wales is committed to equal opportunities and welcomes applications from appropriately qualified people from all sections of the community.
