Job Description

Job title:Lead Design EngineerJob Type:PermanentLocation:Peterborough, CambridgshireSalary:up to£50K DOE (would suit a senior engineer looking to progress career)Industry:Process Equipment - Food, Beverage, ChemicalJob PurposeWe have an exciting new role within our Design Team as a Lead Design Engineer to support the demands of the growing business in liquid and powder process solution equipment, consumable supplier to the food, beverage, brewery, bakery, dairy and utility industriesthroughout the UK. As such you will have the opportunity to bring forward your own ideas to the team. This role offers a great opportunity to lead a small team of design engineers.Reporting to the Head of Operations, you will lead and manage a small team of design engineers responsible for delivering end to end design deliverables to the liquid & powder process & food industry in the UK. You will be responsible for monitoring the designtask delivery performance of the team against the project plans maintaining budget & schedule.Qualifications

  • A degree in Design Engineering, Product Design, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience of Construction Design and Management Regulations, auditing, and Design Risk assessment.
  • Demonstrable experience in engineering project management and budgetary responsibility.
  • Experience in people management of a team of engineering and technical professionals and driving performance.
  • Creative problem solver with the ability to multitask in a rapidly changing environment.
  • A good understanding of mechanisms and awareness of engineering calculations, CE Marking, ATEX, Hazard Analysis & application of electrical & electronic principles.
  • Analytical and logical mindset with a high attention to detail.
The Job (Main Duties)
  • Provide team Leadership with effective communication.
  • Identify all relevant standards and Customer requirements, ensuring compliance with relevant National Standards and legislation, and contract specification.
  • Manage and Deliver innovative, optimised engineering solutions.
  • Formulate prototype designs and produce physical representations.
  • Examine contract documentation and establish the project scope of work including where this differs with the tendered contract requirement then these differences should be highlighted to the Project Manager with options and solutions for resolutions
  • Perform mechanical design and development using 3D CAD software with a "Hands on" approach.
  • Ensure all required models and drawings have an adequate level of review and approval including the supplier and subcontractor supply chains. Incorporating the best practice of within the Engineering team.
  • Work within the integrated project team providing design solutions against requirements, within budget and timescales.
  • Support visits and meetings at UK sites and suppliers when required.
  • Chair, support and facilitate reviews and sign off release of mechanical designs in accordance with business and industry standards.
Candidate Profile (Experience, Skills & Knowledge)
  • Knowledge of Food & Beverage, pharmaceutical, Industrial & chemical design
  • Experience of working in a UK-based design consultancy
  • Experience in the design and delivery of medium to large scale projects
  • Experience of dealing with clients, building strong working relationships
  • Commercially focused.
  • Experience of working in a Multi-Discipline environment and good understanding of co-ordination and interfaces with other disciplines
  • Able to understand and express technical concepts in written and verbal language
  • Able to innovate new solutions as well as applying existing solutions to problems
  • Ensure compliance of the equipment with legislation (e.g. EC Directives).
  • Ensure compliance of the equipment with our standards and quality procedures.
  • Undertake calculations for design on contract work.
