Job Description

DC401HGV DriverLocationPeterboroughSalary£Competitive Hourly RateOverview:First Military Recruitment is working in partnership with our client to recruit an HGV Driver to join their team at a Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) in Peterborough. The Driver will minimise impact to the environment whilst working within the HWRCand off-taker sites. They will promote a good professional image both on and off the highway and will be part of the driving team that will deliver customer expectations in terms of service and product quality. The Driver will always operate safely, both onand off site, and will drive to the highest standards on the highway.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To drive all vehicles and mobile plant involved with the HWRC contracts, primarily drawbar-hookloader units and materials re-handlers, servicing the HWRC Contract in a safe and efficient professional manner.
  • To ensure that all factors which may affect the operation are communicated to the Transport Office immediately and where possible to colleagues to avoid problems.
  • To ensure that all equipment on site or being driven on the highway is in a safe and working condition.
  • Ensure that any defects are reported and acted upon immediately, and report any damage found or caused to all property, owned or 3rd party.
  • To provide and return all required documentation in a timely manner, ensuring that it is legible - this includes the presentation, production and storage of all documents associated with the vehicle and work time directives, VU-digital Tachograph records,and defect-daily walk around reports.
  • To take all necessary precautions for the safety of people, vehicles, and plant as per Health and Safety legislation., seeking guidance from the Contract Operations Manager and relevant people.
  • To follow work instructions provided and IMS procedures as indicated by line management.
  • To complete all Health and Safety Training and update as required.
  • To carry out all the vehicle/plant daily checks and simple maintenance required, recording as necessary, including chassis washing and equipment lubrication.
  • To report all accidents involving and affecting vehicles, plant equipment, self, or third party to the contract operation manager.
  • To respond to any changes or diversions as directed by the Contract Operations Manager or other Agencies e.g. Police, DVSA etc.
  • To carry out any other reasonable tasks as required by the Contract Operations Manager, which may include, but is not limited, to working on the plant and on the site as per a site operatives role.
  • Working a four-on-four-off shift rota.
  • Overtime to cover holidays, training and sickness is a requirement at the request of the site managementBank Holiday working is required.
Skills and Experience:
  • Clean HGV licence for the appropriate categories, digital driver card and driver qualification card (essential).
  • Hookloader and drawbar experience (highly desirable but full training can be given).
  • Driver CPC, perpetually completing the required training days and maintaining this qualification (essential).
  • Have great awareness of environmental and road haulage compliance and law.
  • Well-disciplined and have a flexible attitude to respond to the needs of the Contract.
  • Customer focused.
  • To promote a safe, good health and safety culture embracing refresher, and other training as required.
