Job Description

Job Title: Data Protection Manager (Governance) Location: UK-Kent-Bessels Green or Peterborough Hybrid - 1 day per week in the offices at either location and 1 day per month from the London office. Monday to Friday £50 - 60,000 plus great benefits Overview:To assist the Data Protection Officer in developing and maintaining data governance records and in providing data protection focused legal/regulatory advice and assistance across the Markerstudy Group of Companies. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate a keen interest in data protection and data governance matters and have experience in dealing with regulatory and governance issues for a regulated company.

  1. ability to provide day to day direction and guidance on privacy and data protection issues affecting the Group will be required as well as the ability to collaborate and communicate with the Data Protection Officer, other Group Data Protection Managers(the Group Data Protection Team), Legal, Business and Technical teams. Ability to understand and work with the business, IT and other internal functions, and work with them to achieve compliant, efficient and cost-effective solutions to their compliance needs,whilst protecting the rights and freedoms of our customers is high priority.
Responsibilities:Data Governance:
  • Help maintain and develop GDPR governance records (including records of processing).
  • Proactively monitor and identify gaps in GDPR governance records or improvements required and investigate and collate information to remedy any gaps.
  • Receive and collate required statistics for internal reporting and assist the Data Protection Officer in creating monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Assist the Data Protection Officer in monitoring the status and effectiveness of privacy controls across the Group, ensuring that privacy-related key risk indicators are effectively monitored to prevent a negative impact on business objectives and reputation.
  • Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of risk records for the Data Protection Team.
Project Advisory and Assessments:
  • Carry out initial project reviews using the Data Protection Impact Assessment process. including advising project teams to ensure regulatory compliance is incorporated into plans. at an early stage, and to ensure adequacy of third-party supply chains.
  • Provide advice on data related contract requirements.
  • Liaise with internal project stakeholders throughout projects to ensure compliance.
  • Monitor post project to ensure data protection advice was implemented appropriately.
  • Build trust and good professional relationships with key stakeholders.
Breach and Complaints Management:
  • Support the Data Protection Assistant in investigating privacy-related complaints.
  • Support the Data Protection Assistant in investigating data protection breach notifications.
  • Support the DPO and Data Protection Assistant in responding to complex data subject rights requests.
  • Support the business in developing appropriate remediation and prevention efforts.
Qualifications:
  • Relevant 3+ years work experience in a regulated environment ideally dealing with data management or data privacy issues or with assurance, monitoring or risk activities.
  • Knowledge of UK GDPR and awareness of relevant guidance and standards issued by the Information Commissioners Office.
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry, particularly insurance intermediary activities is preferred. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint and ability to create clear reports to convey detailed information in a simple way is essential.
Working experience/Personal attributes
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills, sound business judgement, with the ability to think strategically and give practical advice by balancing business needs with data risks.
  • Great written and verbal communication skills, able to coordinate and mediate, as well as the ability to work well with a diverse client base and deliver data advice (both group training and on a "one - to - one" basis) in a common-sense manner in plainEnglish
  • Ability to understand business processes and to provide recommendations for compliance requirements
  • Ability to articulate the importance of customer privacy, comfortable with promoting privacy up and down the management chain, including audiences who have varying levels of familiarity with the topic.
  • Is a confident, self-starter, with strong interpersonal skills and a can-do attitude.
  • Has good judgement, and can demonstrate commitment to high standards of ethics, regulatory compliance, customer service and business integrity.
  • Statistical reporting experience preferable.
  • Ability to work comfortably autonomously and also as part of a team
