Job Description

Data Architect - Permanent - £85-95k + bonus + benefitsThis is a new position working for a FTSE 250 business with an excellent range of brands and businesses based in Peterborough.DescriptionAs a newly created Data Architect role in the business, youll be responsible for the definition of the target data architecture for our clients commercial products.Youll be key in the curation of technical principles and solution artefacts that drive good solutions. Working with the engineering, data science and architecture communities to ensure that data solutions adhere to the fundamental governance principles andrequirements. With accountability for research and design activity that will aid future solutions and architectures, and coaching and mentoring engineering/application architects in technical data excellence and data solution design.Whilst the role is technical, it also requires significant Executive/Senior leadership stakeholder engagement to help non-technical/commercial stakeholders in the business to become comfortable with major architectural change, building the case for change andpersuading others of the need.In this role, youll:

  • Drive the evolution of the data platform that powers across all product verticals
  • Provide technology expertise, architectural design and technical ownership on data capabilities and data engineering programmes
  • Contribute to the definition of the business-wide target architecture and tech strategy, conducting exploratory work where required into areas of high risk, and communicating to the wider team.
  • Curate the technical principles, governance artefacts, tools and technologies that are used to build quality solutions in the data arena and beyond.
  • Provide expertise to both engineering and the wider business on technology to meet commercial requirements and improve security, stability, scalability, and speed to market.
  • Deliver designs and data architectures to meet commercial objectives and improve security, availability, efficiency or productivity.
  • Influence and negotiate with engineering teams
  • Transform and scale legacy architectures and platforms
What will it take to be successful in this role
  • Designing data structures in Kimball, Inmon, Relational structures, Data lakes
  • Working with very large complex data sets and the challenges and opportunities that presentsModern data technologies, user cases, designs, pros and cons (Azure, BigQuery, Amazon, Snowflake, General Cloud proposition) alongside mature tech (SQL Server, SSIS)
  • Modern ETL/ELT tools, technologies and design (Azure Data Factory, Python, Matillion)
  • Designing data solutions for Data science/machine learning
Highly advantageous, but not essential
  • NOSQL design
  • Real time streaming tools and techniques
  • BI tools (Power BI, Webfocus, Tableau, Looker)
  • Have delivered an on premise to cloud migration and design
