Job Description

RSR Justice is a niche recruitment agency, who provide staffing services to the offender management and criminal justice sectors.RSR Justice are currently recruiting for x2 Bail Information Officers (BIO) to be based within HMP Peterborough and HMP Bronzefield.The role of a BIO is a varied role where each day will be different, depending on who appears in court. This role is based within the prison establishment’s Offender Management Unit. There is no typical day for a BIO and your role will expose you to every facet of the criminal justice system, including the police, CPS, Judges and Magistrates’.The main responsibilities will include:

  • Make contact and conduct an initial assessment to ascertain current circumstance
  • Offer and conduct a bail information service for all those eligible
  • Explore and assist when required, issues relating to benefits, mental health, social services and whether secondary services are required and make necessary referrals
  • Make productive use of your time, be efficient and provide a proactive bail service at pace
  • Seek out potential service users who fall within the prioritisation criteria in line with HMPPS policy and current legislation
  • Utilise varied communication methods and IT systems (nDelius, NOMIS, OASys) to deliver Bail applications within deadlines prescribed by Courts and stakeholders while managing risk and protecting the public
  • Share bail communications with stakeholders to promote the service.
  • Establish a presence within your prison
  • Ensure a seamless and effective communication flow between courts and prison-based staff
  • Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and be capable of building strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders directly involved with the bail process. e.g. prisoner, solicitor, mental health in-reach team, substance misuse services, court staff, NACRO BASS and other voluntary sector organisations
  • Interview defendants, gathering and verifying information from databases and stakeholders and assessing suitability
  • Follow public protection measures and complete risk assessments, referring to management where necessar
  • Make appropriate referrals e.g. NACRO BASS, Social Services, women’s services, drug and alcohols services and consider victim issues
  • Analysing information to ensure effective decisions are presented to Judiciary and feedback to stakeholders and defendants
  • Consider the diverse needs of the population applying for bail and the COVID pandemic implication
  • Complete and submit quality bail reports to Court
  • Complete weekly data collection returns to Project Lead and contribute to wider analytical collection of qualitative and quantitative data collection.
  • A current Enhanced DBS Check is required for this role, which we can process for you.
