Applications Engineer £30000 - £35,000 per annum Peterborough BenefitsCar allowance will be included due to travel being expectedTravel:Travel across UK and to Ireland will be expected, if required. Reports to: Lead Applications EngineerSummaryProvide technical expertise and calculations for the design of engineering solutions associated with all aspects of the business. Develop Engine packages and third-party components ensuring designs are fit for purpose and cost effective.Major Job Functions*Work closely with sales and design office to provide applications input into the development of sales bids. Work with engineering team to develop new applications to satisfy customer requirements. Identify and communicate to the sales team any potential revenue opportunities.*Develop designs for the integration of 3rd party supplied equipment into turnkey projects, liaising with suppliers where necessary. Design and contribute to the development of various components.*Design and develop site layouts with a focus on minimising build and ongoing maintenance costs. Liaises with drawing office for access to drawings. Provides detailed technical information on incorporating designs into customer installations.*Work with procurement to provide technical specifications and identifying suppliers to develop cost effective components. Adhere to company purchasing guidelines and provide feedback on supplier performance.*Conduct and document design reviews ensuring the quality and integrity of drawings produced by the Design Office team prior to approval. Work alongside engineering to develop design procedures and controls. Conduct stress analysis of internally designed components.Specific Skills*Mechanical and electrical skills *Competent in using IT, with basic CAD skills *Able to interpret engineering drawings *Strong communication skills with an ability to build positive relationships at all levels of the business *Conceptual and creative problem-solver with strong analytical skills Knowledge*Industry knowledge from at least one of the following oil & gas, electric power, industrial or marine sectors *Competent in completing simple stress calculations Accountability*Organise own work to complete delegated tasks to agreed deadline. Use others input and relevant expertise to ensure designs optimise proposed solution. *Optimise own skills and assist others in providing a professional, competent service to the business. Raise any concerns/issues to the Lead Application Engineer to ensure that issues can be mitigated against in a timely fashion. Ensure design procedures are adhered to and contribute to continuous improvement of the design control and database management. *Adhere to data back-up, storage, document control and production procedures. *Keep design costs to a minimum, working within financial parameters and control processes within the department. *Take part in training needs analysis, 1-2-1 process and discussions about departmental resource needs. Member of a recognised professional body. *Maintain contact with professional bodies and continually builds own level of skill and knowledge. Adhere to Finning policies, current legislation and EH&S standards and take appropriate actions to achieve a zero LTA business.
