The Job: An exciting opportunity for an experienced Biomedical Scientist has now arisen in the Histology Laboratory based within Tissue Sciences at Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough, to operate at a supervisory and senior level.Your development and learning:You will have a suite of learning opportunities available through the Scientific Learning and Development Fund and the ViAcademy through which you can receive funding for advanced qualifications.Through our Innovation Fund, you can apply for finance to get that new innovative scientific project off the ground, and participate with the wider scientific community through symposiums, conferences and other peer group meetings.A little about the lab and us:The Department currently processes approximately 22,000 surgical specimens per year, offering an impressive range of diagnostic techniques including routine histopathological methods, immunocytochemistry and OSNA, the advanced intra-operative One Step Nucleic Acid Amplification Molecular Technique used for the detection of metastatic breast cancer in sentinel lymph node. It has strong links with its sister site at Denmark Hill and works with other specialist labs to provide a quality service for patients.Applications are invited from an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist who possesses extensive practical experience in histology including immunohistochemistry and demonstrable management skills to lead a team. Previous experience using the Ventana Benchmark Ultra although desirable is not essential, as full training will be provided. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to train and participate in the advanced intra-operative OSNA molecular technique.The post holder will be expected to take the lead in specific areas such as Health & Safety, training, IT and quality in rotation with other Senior BMS, as required.The successful candidate will join an excellent team providing an efficient and effective histopathology service to a busy hospital. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated with good interpersonal, leadership and management skills.The service is delivered by a dynamic team of Biomedical Scientists and support staff spread across all sections of the Laboratory and the office. We are an IBMS approved training laboratory. We are working towards UKAS accreditation.
