Job Description

We are working with a local Authority in Oldham to find a Senior Accountant on a permanent basis.Salary: £42,500.Minimum 2 days a week in officeThe role:To assist the Finance Manager in the day-to-day operation of a Finance TeamTo ensure processes and plans are in place to support effective financial management and provide complete and accurate accounting and budget information for the relevant area.Key Duties:

  • Assisting the Finance Manager in providing technical advice, guidance, briefings, and training appropriate to the audience on a range of financial issues relating to high profile projects/programmes
  • Liaising daily with Heads of Service, budget holders and other officers on financial matters.
  • Supporting the Finance Manager in undertaking full monthly or quarterly closedowns of their areas including Balance Sheet items as per the prepared timetable.
  • Producing and presenting financial management information, budget monitoring and trading reports, which are accurate and timely, appropriate to the audience.
  • Preparing comments on Service Directors’ reports on behalf of the Finance Directorate, ensuring any decisions are taken with due regard to the budgetary framework, financial regulations, constitution and codes of practice.
Experiences required:
  • CCAB qualified accountant (CIPFA preferred) or extensive experience at a Senior Accountant level.
  • Experienced with Budget preparation.
  • Experienced in delivering financial information to stakeholders.
  • A proven track record of successfully managing, setting, and monitoring budgets for services, including the development of integrated costings systems and methodologies, and working with budget holders to rebalance overspends.
  • A proven track record of researching and preparing reports on financial issues and financial implications for reports, which are analytical and present clear options.
