Buyer / Planner

Job Description

The Buyer / Planner will be working with the current team to assure continuous supply of goods into the manufacturing facility including the purchasing of goods, materials, and services to meet customer demand. Also to assist the current Production Plannerto schedule work of valve manufacture though the factory.Client DetailsIve exclusively partnered with a growing SME manufacturing business which specialise in precision engineering.Location: OldhamDescriptionTo ensure that production have a clear and continuous supply of goods into the manufacturing facility that maximises efficiency and allows the business to meet customer demand.Purchase goods, materials, and services to ensure that the companies operational needs are met, considering price, quality and delivery and ensure continuity of supply.Key Responsibilities of the Buyer / Planner:

• Monitor part usage and set up parameters such as safety stock and economic ordering/manufacturing quantities.
• Maintain data for suppliers such as lead times, contact information & preferable supplier.
• Managing the supply of materials, products, and components to meet customer/production demand.
• Determine the required materials from the MRP run and production order demand and generate purchase orders to meet demand providing materials in time.
• Coordinating with other departments regarding production goals, timelines etc.
• Analyse current buying systems and create best methods for day-to-day procurement methods.
• Communicate to key stakeholders any supply problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
• Monitor market trends for materials which fluctuate to ensure we are getting the best prices.
• Research and evaluate areas of opportunity and reduce costs where possible.
• Manage supplier performance & selection in terms of on time delivery and quality.
• Develop ideas and strategies to improve operational efficiencies, add value, aid business performance and work towards strategy of continuous improvement.
• Provide Sales dept with delivery date info for current orders and confirm lead times for new sales orders.
• Ensure compliance to company guidelines, purchasing policies and relevant international law.
• Explore alternative sources for goods and materials.
• Assessing tenders and quotations from new potential suppliers and set up according to procedures.
• Contact suppliers to resolve price, quality, delivery, or invoice issues.
• Purchase business consumables as required.

ProfileThe successful candidate for the Buyer / Planner role will ideally have the following key skills & qualities:

• Previous experience in a planning and/or purchasing role.
• Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.
• Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
• Analytical, numerical astute with strong proven problem-solving abilities.
• Commercially and financially aware.
• Keen attention to detail, diligent and accurate.
• Computer literate - proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word.
• Ability to work and make decisions under pressure.
