Job Description

Machine Shop Manager £Highly Competitive Plus Benefits Location: West Midlands Tooling, Toolroom, Machining, CADCAM, Fanuc, Planning, Capacity Planning, Scheduling, Machinery, Routing, CNC, Programming, We are looking for an experienced Machine Shop Manager to help manage and coordinate the flow or work and requirements within a tooling, batch machining and high precision production environment.As a Machine Shop Manager, you will need to be able to demonstrate experience in low to medium volume machining operations to support new product, one off production and small batch manufacturing to meet corporate objectives and targets within a high precision machining operation. As a Machine Shop Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting, Scheduling & Operating all machinery within the Machine Shop
  • Working to tight production schedules and tolerances
  • Work with the Management and Sales teams and advise on future layout and equipment requirements
  • Continuously look at the processes to initially give, then maintain measurable efficiency improvements
  • Plan the production for the Machine Shop, producing accurate costing, timing & routing data for jobs
  • Make sure machinery is regularly serviced/maintained, ensuring tooling is controlled and well stocked.
  • Develops the machining team through motivation, counselling, machining skills, product knowledge, holding performance development reviews as well as setting timely and meaningful bonus schedules
  • Develop In-House training and deliver such to relevant employees whenever necessary
  • Be prepared to travel within the UK and abroad to support the sales team on machining issues and help sell and promote the machining products/services offered by Böhler-Uddeholm (UK) Limited
  • Customer Visits both individually or along with the External Sales Force
  • Be prepared to perform hands on machining duties should capacity and customer requirements dictate the need for additional support to complete and deliver tooling and components
  • Take reasonable care of your own and other people’s health and safety.
  • Co-operate with your employer on health and safety.
  • Support the company with environmental initiatives and any compliance issues.
  • As a Machine Shop Manager, you will have the following skills and experience:
  • Consistent solid business ethics and integrity with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to drive a team within a tooling or machine shop environment
  • Strong understanding of customer and market dynamics and requirements
  • The ability to work on their own initiative and be pro-active rather than reactive
  • Good team player willing to share experience and knowledge with colleagues
  • Outstanding organisational skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Training, coaching and counselling skills
  • The ability to work and deal with personnel from all levels
  • Tact, and the ability to deal with difficult situations
  • Numerical and IT skills
  • Commercial & Financial Acumen
