Job Description

SPR Careers are proud to be working with a public sector client to recruit for a temporary Lead Health and Safety Officer based in Oldbury.As a Lead Health and Safety Officer you will be responsible for assessing and promoting health and safety compliance in commissioned social care provision, for example, in care homes and day centres. Working within the Quality and Safety Team,you will deliver health and safety training, support event health and safety and maintain existing health and safety systems.The successful applicant must hold a relevant qualification, including NEBOSH or L4 NVQ in a relevant area, as well as possessing suitable experience. Note due to sensitive nature of the sector, you will be subject to an enhanced DBS check should you not alreadybe on the DBS update service.This is a temporary role, with an initial term of three months, working alongside the existing Lead Health and Safety Officer. A hybrid working model will be offered, however a regular presence at the site in Oldbury will be expected.Key Responsibilities of the Lead Health and Safety Officer:

  • To support the delivery of the objectives and priorities within Adult Social Care through engagement, consultation and negotiation with all stakeholders, utilising skills of persuasion
  • To maintain and develop professional knowledge, skills, and experience to further enhance service delivery and support colleagues both within Adult Social Care
  • To have a detailed understanding of relevant legislation and underlying concepts and principles of the work area
  • To support teams, in influencing, motivating and supervising the day to day team activities with the aim of delivering Improvement and Efficiency projects and activities
  • To have effective time management skills that will ensure the compliance to demanding and challenging timescales
  • To undertake detailed research and analysis to support all Adult Social Care activities
  • To plan for and contribute to the implementation of creative and innovative solutions to a wide range of challenges
  • To have limited monitoring responsibility for budgets, regulations and procedures
  • To contribute to the development and the communication of policies relating to the services within Adult Social Care to include research, analysis, supporting consultation and appropriate decision making
  • To contribute to the service development within Adult Social Care ensuring that both strategies and services are fit for purpose and are future proofed against changing circumstances
  • The preparation, communication and exchange of technical, complex, contentious or sensitive information to a range of audiences
  • To support and contribute ideas in the development of plans to achieve objectives to improve services
  • To produce and present accurate detailed and complex reports both verbally and in writing on matters relating to the services within Adult Social Care
Essential Criteria for the Lead Health and Safety Officer:
  • Proven Experience: Minimum of three years as a practicing health and safety advisor
  • Relevant Qualification: NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma, or L4 NVQ in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Specialist Knowledge: A detailed understanding of Health and Safety legislation and its implementation, with knowledge of auditing and safety management systems
  • Computer Literacy: Suitably computer literate and able to use Microsoft Office packages
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport and deliver technical information to various audiences
Working Information:This is a time restricted role, with an initial three month term.
