Job Description

A growing SME in the Oldbury area of Birmingham is recruiting an experienced hands-on Finance Manager. Initially this will be a standalone role covering all aspects of the finance function although it is anticipated that the team will grow as the businesscontinues to grow.This is mainly an office-based role, with one day per week working from home.As Finance Manager, your responsibilities will include:

  • Taking ownership of annual budget including preparation, implementation and forecasting.
  • Providing insightful financial analysis to support decision-making at the executive level.
  • Taking responsibility for job costing and stock management, working with the Managing Director & senior management team in understanding profitability and costing/pricing of products.
  • Working closely with stakeholders to monitor and analyse project budgets, costs, and profitability.
  • Implementing systems and controls to enhance job costing accuracy and efficiency.
  • Monitoring key financial metrics and implementing measures to enhance profitability.
  • Developing and improving forecasting, both P&L and cash flow.
  • Continuously identifying opportunities for process improvement and implementing best practices.
  • Monitoring and enforcing internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensuring all Group reporting timetables are met, and accounting procedures and controls are maintained.
  • Taking responsibility for the purchase and sales ledger and ensuring all payments/receipts are managed correctly with a view to maintaining optimal cash flow.
  • Preparing VAT returns each quarter and taking responsibility for year-end accounts for consolidation into the Group accounts and corporation tax packs required for Group reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and optimising financial performance across subsidiaries.
  • Working with external Auditors to maintain all records.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support.
We’re looking for a Finance Manager with the following skills and experience:
  • ACCA, /ACA or CIMA Qualified by qualified by experience
  • Experience using Sage Accounting Software
  • Extensive experience in a similar role
  • Experience within a £10-£20m turnover SME preferably within manufacturing/engineering or building services industries
  • Strong technical accounting skills
  • Commercially focussed with the ability to develop and adapt finance procedures as the business moves through change.
  • Strong background in job costing
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
