Job Description

Waterside Manager Location: OakhamSalary: CompetitiveThe company are nestled in the beautiful Rutland countryside upon 3,000 acres of safe non-tidal water offering a variety of club races and social activity.They are a sailing centre of excellence for training and development as endorsed by the RYA as a National Sailing Academy and boast a 10,000 square foot clubhouse.Our client is incredibly excited to recruit on their behalf a Waterside Managerto join their friendly team.PurposeTo support the General Manager in the day to day running of the Sailing Club. You will be responsible for all water-based activities, including club and open meetings. As Waterside Manager, you will take direct oversight of the Sailing School, its operationsand finances. This will include direct line management of the Sailing School Manager / Chief Instructor.Key Responsibilities

  • Deputise for the General Manager in their absence, making operational decisions to ensure the smooth running of the Club
  • To plan and ensure delivery of all water-based activities including training, recreational sailing, club racing and open meetings
  • Ensure all departments are operating within company policy and procedures
  • Be a face of theSailing Club for all members and visitors
  • Deal with complaints or incidents as required
  • To assist on reception as required
  • To act as an additional keyholder and emergency contact
To oversee all aspects of the Sailing School management
  • Directly overseeof theSailing School and in-house chandlery
  • Ensure all accreditations are upheld
  • To work with the General Manager to ensure sustainable delivery of the School
  • Oversee production and of theimplementation the Sailing School budget
  • Provide professional development and training for water-based staff
  • Able to deliver RYA courses if required and assist Fleet Captains with arranging Club activity
Water Activity Management
  • To work with the Sailing Committee as required; attend meetings and keep minutes
  • To allocate water space during busy times
  • Management of the waterside to ensure all activitiesruns smoothly without conflict
  • To work with the General Manager to ensure no conflict of Club resource and to source additional resources when required.
Working PatternFive days a week, planned with other staff to ensure cover at the weekends and at other times when the club is particularly busy. Availability for weekend working on a rota basis is essential throughout the year. Normal weekends will require two of the threemanagers to be on duty, some low season weekends may require only one manager. Occasional evenings are required.Club Context
  • One of the largest inland sailing clubs in the UK with over 1500 members and a full racing and training programme for the full range of boats from Optimists to 27ft Keelboats plus an extensive open meeting and external training programme
  • Recognised as an RYA Training Centre, ICC Test Centre and OnBoard Club
  • The club has its own in-house sailing school operating year round balancing commercial RYA courses and training for members and fleets
  • The sailing school also provides Club Pro support for member activities
  • Facilities on site include a workshop, extensive club house with bar, catering and accommodation facilities, training block and chandlery
  • On-water facilities include 4 pontoon jetties, 120 moorings, 11 RIBs, 4 race committee boats and 2 workboats
Person SpecificationEssential Education and Qualifications
  • RYA Senior Instructor qualification.
Preferred Skills and Attributes
  • Able to manage conflicting work priorities across departments
  • A proficient office manager comfortable with all aspects of office operations, including emails, photocopying, phone booking,enquiresand basic numeracy skills
  • Comfortable with Microsoft and Google based programmes
  • Effective communicator and people management skills
  • Ability to lead and support all staff while resolving disputes between members, visitors and Club staff when required.
Experience and Knowledge
  • Experience of managing an RYA sailing school or similar operation
  • Experience of managing a multi-skilled, experienced team
  • An understanding of RYA accreditations
  • Experience and knowledge of sailing Clubs and their operations.
Desirable Experience
  • Experience of using Sailing Club Manager and Sailwave
  • Experience of repair and maintenance associated with sailing activities
You may currently be a Chief Instructor or sailing school manager. Training and support will be provided for this new role.
