Job Description

This is a family run business with one single store. Often referred to as a rural department store, the centre offers a wide range of products including, indoor and outdoor plants departments, garden tools and accessories, homeware, gifts, and pet supplies.Additional features include a farm shop, restaurant, coffee shop, childrens play area and a dedicated dog walking field. The centre generates a turnover of over £10 million a year.The sundries manager will report to the Head of Horticulture and be responsible for all non-living aspects of the garden centre within the sundries and landscaping departments. A key part of the role will be buying for the department to include product researchand selection with an awareness of the pre-ordering seasons within garden centres. The candidate will be responsible for 4 full time members of staff which can fluctuate depending on the season. The aim is for candidates to be 30% office based with the restof their time being on the shop floor. It is expected that the candidates will ensure the sales area and the staff are well presented at all times and reinforce and promote an exceptional level of customer service.The following skills are essential:

  • Experience of working in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Strong customer service skills and experience
  • Familiarity with KPIs and ability to quickly identify strong sellers and weaker lines
  • Experience of stock management, processing deliveries, pricing, regular stock takes and ordering new stock.
  • Good merchandising skills with an ability to implement POS for new promotions.
  • Good communication skills with staff, other department heads and centre management
