Job Description

A newly created Managing Director role (ideally for a candidate with a Finance Director background) has been created at a fabulous SME organisation in northern Nottinghamshire. The role has been created to enable one of the owners of the business to focuson other areas for growth, with the Managing Director taking charge of the business operations.They ideally need an MD with recent SME (c£5-10m turnover) experience who has come up through the finance route because they have a small and growing finance team who over time will need some support in their professional development. an MD with FD experiencewould be perfect for this regard.In terms of sector experience, a candidate from the online retail/fulfilment or e-commerce sectors would be preferred. Certainly someone from a business responsible for selling physical goods is critical - purely because the MD will be running a businesswhich imports and distributes goods. It would therefore be advantageous to have insights into such operations.The role will need to be visible, so it also needs to be a candidate able and excited to be working on-site during working hours.In terms of the role responsibilities, its likely to look something like this:

  • Overall responsibility and running of the business
  • Oversee and manage the running (of the finance dept. especially) but all depts to allow for strategic planning and improved profitability
  • Participating in and setting of strategic direction of the business
  • Board reporting and meetings
  • Ownership of the P&L
  • Line manager to the team leaders/managers in finance and operations with dotted line to sales
  • Ensuring the business is optimising profitability and sustainable growth
  • Ensuring customers and employees alike are valued and nurtured
  • Helping ensure site safety
  • Helping continue the excellent record of staff tenure at company level by engaging with all staff where appropriate and being an inspirational role model
  • Be able to scrutinise financial information, and
  • Be familiar with financial reporting standard
Also;
  • Be familiar with HR practice (there is no HR function embedded in the business so youll have external help where needed)
  • Be familiar with Health and Safety requirements (again outsourced but needs to be managed internally)
  • Be IT literate (again no internal department as IT is also outsourced)
