As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, your main role is to carry out routine and specialist examination of samples using various technologies and to report or present the results as appropriate. You will be expected to assist the section manager (Team Leader) in the daily operation of the assigned section including the supervision of more junior State Registered BMS and support staff. You will rotate through all sections of the service including serology, bacteriology, parasitology, molecular microbiology and mycology.The Microbiology laboratory is fully ISO 15189 accredited. Teaching, training, audit, research and development are actively encouraged and pursued within the department. The laboratory is approved by the IBMS as a training centre and fully supports continuing professional development.Within the next year it is envisaged that the department will move to a full 24 hour 7 day service so these working hours are subject to change.
