Software EngineerSalary: £28,000 - 32,000Location: Nottingham, 1-2 days remote availableCovid-19 note: this position is still open, and interviews will take place remotely. Once an offer has been made, youll be onboarded remotely as well and all required kit will be sent to you.In your average office job, Health and Safety pretty much comes down to "don’t stick a fork in the toaster" or "don’t microwave fish".When you’re 40 miles offshore and you’re responsible for the handling of 15,000 tons of crude oil though, things change a wee bit.In fact, unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll know all about the kind of devastation that a plant failure or a hazardous materials mishap can cause; I’m not just talking about the biggies like BP oil spills either.Humans - no matter how clever - make mistakes. We overlook things. We’re prone to finding loopholes if it makes things easier.And that’s fine…until something goes wrong.Computers don’t do that. They do what they’re told to do. That’s where this team comes in.They’ve developed solutions centred around Artificial Intelligence and Automation that monitor hazards and potential dangers in schemata for chemical engineering plants, oil refineries, and basically every other environment that can go from this is fine’ to my office is about to explode’ in 10 seconds flat.These solutions have saved lives, an they’ll continue to save more.But they could do it faster with more people, and that’s where you come in.With a dev team currently sitting at 5, including the hands-on CTO, they want to grow the team to 12 over the next 6 months.In the grand scheme of things, that’ll probably be a lead dev, two senior devs, 2 mid-level devs, and then some plucky juniors who want to build platforms that make these "potential death traps" a much safer place to be.If youre looking for a step up from your very first role as a dev, dont worry, youll be taken care of here. Although its a small team, youll be given plenty of support, guidance, and mentoring to ensure you do some of your best work yet, and theres plenty of room for you to climb the ladder and progress much quicker than you would at a larger company.Tech stack is C#, WPF, SQL, and a pinch of C++/Python on the side.You dont need to be an expert on all of this, because they know that any good developer will have the ability to learn, but its helpful if youve already got a good knowledge of C# (Web or Desktop applications), and youre able to understand the "whys" behind software development and general architecture.They’re a small team doing big things, but micromanaging people isn’t one of them. If you’ve got ideas, you’ll have freedom. If you want to progress, they’re growing.
