Job Description

Senior Improvement LeadThis key role within the East Midlands Academic Health Science Network (EMAHSN), will lead national patient safety improvement programmes within the region, utilising quality improvement approaches. These programmes are aligned to the National Patient Safety Strategy, and form the basis of activity undertaken by a national network of patient safety collaboratives, (PSCs) based within each AHSN.We are seeking a highly motivated, inquisitive and creative problem solver with excellent communication and influencing skills, to work across organisational boundaries. You will bring together the key people across systems to lead quality improvement projects. You will enjoy working collaboratively, feel confident to challenge the status quo, and be prepared to adapt and seek mutually beneficial solutions to patient safety issues. You will have a track record in delivering change in a range of health and care settings, and be able to quickly develop credible, productive relationships with key stakeholders. Candidates should be able to demonstrate good knowledge and application of quality improvement methodologies and project management skills, relevant to health care systems. The PSC is commissioned to deliver patient safety improvement programmes relating to Managing Physical Deterioration in Adults; Maternity and Neonatal Safety, Medicines Safety and Mental Health Safety (more details are available on our website). Additionally we deliver a number of programmes aimed at increasing adoption and spread of proven patient safety initiatives. These currently include safe tracheostomy care, Asthma and COPD discharge bundles. We particularly encourage applicants with experience relevant to our physical deterioration, mental health or medication safety workstreams at this time, although this is not essential. Workstreams are subject to variation over time. The Senior Improvement Lead will support and undertake improvement testing and scale-up activities across a range of health and care settings, that will demonstrate a measurable and incremental change. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide range of stakeholders across the East Midlands and make connections nationally as part of the PSC/AHSN Network (a partnership of England’s 15 AHSNs). Visit joinourteam to learn more about our team, culture vision and valuesThis role is offered as a permanent post, or a secondment opportunity (where line manager approval has been granted prior to application). As this post was advertised during May 2020, previously interviewed candidates need not apply.About EMAHSNWe are one of 15 AHSNs established by the NHS in 2013. We work in our local areas to identify and spread healthcare innovation – helping the NHS do things better and cheaper. This involves working as an ‘honest broker’ bringing together many partners across sectors: the NHS, public health, local government, universities, voluntary organisations and healthcare companies. As well as working in our own regions the 15 AHSNs collaborate as a national network to take what works best locally and quickly spread it throughout England.Based on our outstanding impacts during our first 5 year licence, the AHSNs were relicensed from April 2018 to operate as the key innovation arm of the NHS.Most AHSNs are ‘hosted’ within an NHS Trust. EMAHSN is hosted by Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). Whilst we are employed by NUH and follow the Trust’s policies and procedures, we operate as a standalone organisation with our own work programmes and separate offices, budgets, governance arrangements, branding and visual identity. To find out more about EMAHSN visit our website. For further details / informal visits contact:Eddie Alder, Head of Patient Safety /NB during 20-24 July Eddie will be on leave, however in his absence you can contact the existing Senior Improvement Lead, Michaela Thompson / )
