Youll have experience of a wide range of projects and have developed specialist knowledge (especially on herpetofauna, chiropteran or riparian mammals). Youll also have good project management skillsand report-writing skills, and some experience of line managing individuals.ABOUT US Our UK Ecology team, comprising more than 160 ecologists based across the UK, covers all terrestrial, freshwater and marine habitats. We provide clients with the full range of ecological services including specialist habitat and species surveys, impact assessment,advice on biodiversity mitigation, offsetting and enhancement, and management planning for biodiversity. Our projects include high-profile transport and other infrastructure, as well as commercial and residential development projects.ABOUT THE JOBWere seeking an experienced Principal Ecologist to join our team in Central England.   • Utilizes advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies develop technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure compliance. Work is performed with minimal direction.
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Responsible for advanced duties and activities in their specialized functional area.
  • Conducts research and does investigation work as required.
  • Plans and organizes project studies.
  • Assists in the resolution of conflicting technical information and unsuitability of standard procedures.
  • Performs complex assignments often requiring the development of unique solutions to problems.
  • May oversee the work of less experienced scientists.
Minimum Requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of UK and EC wildlife legislation and policy, as well as Ecological Impact Assessment
  • Holder of relevant protected species survey licences including mitigation licences would be desirable.
  • Technical and professional proficiency with a demonstrable history of winning, deliver and management of ecological projects to a high standard, on time and within budgets
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in particular, the ability to write concise technical reports
  • Proven ability to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients
  • Adaptable and flexible approach to work to meet peaks in demands
  • Represent AECOM externally through projects, client management, publications and presentations
  • Use advanced scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to complex problems
  • Plan and organise project studies
  • Experience of
Phase 1 Habitat and protected species surveys and licensing Managing and mentoring staff, as well as technical leadership of teams of ecologists on major projects Electronic data capture, analysis and presentation Liaising with clients, project managers and other project stakeholders including statutory bodies Interpreting and recording data, conducting analyses, comparing findings to relevant studies and local, provincial and national regulations to ensure complianceIf you can fulfil these requirements but other factors are holding you back from applying, please get in touch so we can work together to address any concerns you may have.Preferred Qualifications
