Job Description

The Role: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Engineer to join our team in the Midlands. Within this role you will undertake identification and prioritization of asset needs (pavements, footways & cycleways) while assuring adherence to defined asset policiesand standards. The role may be required to work unsociable hours. You will be required to drive as part of your role and you will need to have a full clean driving license to be considered for this position and during employment.Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure the health and safety needs and wellbeing of customers and employees responsible are fully considered and accounted for throughout the planning and delivery of each service activity
  • Collect and rationalize asset condition datasets required to run asset needs identification and prioritization
  • Undertake the identification and prioritization of asset needs (pavements, road markings, footways & cycleways) in line with agreed methodologies and criteria
  • Support Asset Lead with developing and implementing asset management strategies
  • Support Asset Lead with running long term whole life costing analysis at network level for identified asset needs with the application of various asset strategies and annual levels of service (eg maintain steady state or asset future proofing)
  • Support Asset Lead with running analysis of historical pavement condition data aimed at developing empirical deterioration models for various parameters (eg skidding resistance, rutting, cracking)
  • Support Asset Lead with running network wide analysis for the application of innovative materials and technologies (eg asphalt preservation, cold in-situ recycling, cold applied MMA high friction surface)
  • Produce asset needs technical briefs and scoping forms provided to internal and external design consultants
  • Support Asset Lead with providing technical advice and direction to design subcontractors at detailed asset renewal development stage
  • Support Asset Lead with conducting technical reviews of asset renewals packages developed by internal and external design contractors
  • Attend technical workshops aimed at identifying best whole life cost option for renewals developed by internal and external consultants
  • Attend project progress meetings with external contractors
  • Support Asset Lead with responding to technical and general customer and stake holder enquiries
  • Liaise with other asset teams to ensure their needs are considered while running analysis for pavements
To Be Successful:
  • Degree or HND in relevant discipline and appropriate experience, or equivalent
  • Membership of professional Body (desirable) or working towards Membership (desirable)
  • Knowledge of asset condition assessment and degradation modelling (desirable)
  • Strong IT skills - Excel, PowerBi, GIS, AutoCad, coding in general (desirable)
  • Knowledge of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) standards and their application on the highways network
  • Understanding of the Value Management process or cost benefit analysis of schemes
  • Experience in highway infrastructure design (desirable)
