Job Description

Network Support Technician Job Type: TemporarySector: HealthcareStart Date: ImmediatelyDuration: Expected to last 3 monthsOffice Location: NottinghamBase: HospitalBand: 6IR 35: Within IR35Pay Rates: £16.00- £19.00 Paye per hour£17.00 to £21.00 Paye inclusive of Holiday Pay£20.00 to £24.00 umbrella per hour*This is depending on skill and experienceWorking days and hours: Monday to Friday9am-5pm, 37.5 hoursTravel: Must have their own transport for this role. Mileage paid at 24p per mile.Job Summary

  • Assisting the Trust Network Manager in proactively administering, maintaining, and supporting the Trusts data and IPT network infrastructures in accordance with Trust, industry and national standards.
  • Assist in ensuring that all infrastructure systems operate with a focus on customer-based delivery.
  • Take control of incoming support tickets into the Network team, resolving service requests, incidents, creating and updating documentation on how to guides to help others tackle problems that have been solved; assist with correctly prioritizing and schedulingtickets to the right engineers where appropriate.
  • Work closely with Network engineers to complete designated tasks in a timely manner.
  • Attend to site to resolve issues and support field engineers.
  • Ensure proper awareness of own responsibilities in accordance with Trust policies and the Data Protection Act.
  • Assisting to build, configure and deploy hardware i.e., switches, wireless APs, firewalls & IPT equipment.
  • Installation of network equipment at Trust sites including using a ladder and other tools where required.
  • Monitoring the health of the Trusts data and voice network.
  • Support the team leader to maintain necessary equipment stock levels including ordering/receiving goods.
  • To undertake any other duties at the request of the line manager which are commensurate with the role, including project work, internal job rotation and absence cover.
Essential Requirements
  • Professional technical certification e.g., CCT, MCSE.
  • Experience of working in a customer led service
  • Experience of producing technical documentation and reports e.g., Technical Documents, Standard Operating Procedures etc.
  • Knowledge of Voice & Data Networks
  • Knowledge of Cisco equipment.
  • Understanding of routing, switching and wireless.
  • Knowledge of IP networking
  • Knowledge of IP telephony and voicemail systems.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows configuration and administration skills.
  • Management and fault analysis of technical issues
  • Knowledge of Trust sites
  • Understanding of change control processes
Key Responsibilities
  • Provision of all Trust in-house endpoint devices to include the following:
  • 6000+ laptops
  • 4000+ Desktop PCs
  • 800+ printers & multi-function devices
  • 4000+ Mobile devices including, tablets and smartphones
  • 10,000+ Users
  • 200+ sites across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire & Derbyshire
  • 600+ Network Devices
  • 70+ Local Area networks
  • 200 IP Networks
  • 2500+ IP Phones
  • Use of, ITIL compliant, Service Desk call logging system.
Networking
  • Understand and assist on issues to do with administering and maintaining corporate infrastructure, including network connectivity, IP telephony & Wireless.
  • Understand the issues involved in administering and maintaining corporate WAN and LAN.
  • Assists with deployment of wireless access points.
  • Assists with deployment of switches and firewalls.
Telephone
  • Assists with the administration and maintenance of the IP telephone system, including deployment of IP handsets.
  • Assists with the creation of new IP telephone accounts, voicemail extensions, routing extensions to appropriate locations.
ITSD calls assigned to Network
  • Takes control of incoming support tickets into the Network team, resolves service requests, incidents.
  • Creates and updates documentation on how to guides to help others tackle problems that have been solved.
  • Assist with correctly prioritizing and scheduling Network team tickets to the appropriate engineers.
  • Helps troubleshoot and resolve ITSD calls assigned to the Network team.
  • Interacts with other ICT teams and Trust staff to resolve basic network issues
  • Communicates with other Digital Services teams and Trust staff in a professional manner maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ensures that ITSD and other Digital Services staff are kept informed of real time technical issues and changes as they arise.
Asset Management
  • Helps maintain an inventory of the network teams hardware and software.
  • Assists with the purchase of software, hardware, and other ICT supplies.
  • Promotes responsible usage and care of corporate equipment.
  • Manges internal network team handling of WEEE.
Internal Operations
  • Plan tasks and activities which may require adjustment due to variable workload and frequent interruptions.
  • Assist in the maintenance of all documentation of network connections and diagrams of network topology ensuring that they are always available.
  • Assists in carrying out diagnostic checks on network hardware and software identifying faults and performing recovery procedures in the event of component failure.
  • Assists with testing and commissioning of new network equipment before it is added to the network to ensure its compatibility.
  • Accurately completes and submits time and expense reports in a timely manner.
  • Accurately completes and submits status reports in a timely manner..
  • Participate fully as a member of the Digital Services in order to deliver a timely and professional ICT support service to all staff.
Development
  • Seeks input from Network Engineers and supervisors.
  • Actively applies feedback received to day-to-day work and strives to improve performance.
  • Achieves Cisco Certified Technician Routing & Switching (CCTRS) competencies
  • Evidence of working towards Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) competencies.
