Job Description

Mechanical Engineer Mechanical Engineer based in Nottingham.Key Responsibilities of Mechanical Engineer:

  • Technical leadership of mechanical drivetrain design and analysis projects or work packages
  • Overseeing and checking the work of other staff and contractors
  • Reviewing and improving of gearbox designs
  • Drivetrain development troubleshooting (e.g. addressing durability, vibration or efficiency issues)
  • Delivering technical work using CAD, Finite element tools or CAE software including Nexus, MSC Apex and other tools
  • Concept design development
  • D rawings of drivetrain components and assemblies
  • Managing suppliers for procurement of prototype parts and liaising with manufacturers and test houses to deal with non-conformance and development issue
  • Specifications of parts and supplier liaison
  • Developing specifications and test requirements
  • Discussions with customers in meetings and web-meetings
  • Supporting sales
  • Writing proposals for project work
    • Key Requirements of Mechanical Engineer:
  • A good understanding of the development process for transmissions or similar complex mechanical components.
  • In-depth knowledge of the use of simulation technology such as FE analysis, CAE, gear design software, or a good appreciation of how such tools are used in the design process.
  • Sound knowledge of manufacturing for mechanical components such that you can create drawings of transmission components and liaise with manufacturers.
  • High level qualifications (typically degree) in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or related subject.
  • 3+ years experience in a related area i.e. Automotive industry.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an interest in developing skills in NEXUS analysis and other CAE tools.
