Job Description

We have an urgent opportunity for an IT Infrastructure Engineer to join our clients team on a 3 month contract basis. This role is home based and outside IR35.The ideal candidate would be a highly experienced wintel engineer who can work on break fix and planning upgrades. Windows VMs in Azureand some legacy applications. This person will be helping with technical documents and some design work as our client upgradesthese apps.Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring all Infrastructure systems are monitored and available
  • Configuring and installing various network devices and services (e.g. routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, QoS)
  • Configuring and installing various server infrastructure devices and services (e.g. Servers, SANs, NASs, Nutanix, VMWare, Hyper-V and Azure Cloud Services)
  • Ensure all systems are patched, supported, maintained and updated including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
  • To advise on capacity planning, monitoring performance and ensuring system availability and reliability in line with projected growth
  • Performing network maintenance and system upgrades including service packs, patches, hot fixes and security configurations
  • Ensuring all required equipment is installed and delivered across all sites as and when required
  • The documentation and maintenance of all Infrastructure systems, including network diagrams, server documentation and security configuration
  • To contribute towards the writing, maintaining, and testing a full infrastructure disaster recovery plan for all IT Infrastructure systems
This person will be joining a small team of infrastructure engineers, working independently on server builds, repairing systems and ensuring the IT infrastructure is fit for purpose. You will need to be comfortable to work with legacy equipment and solveproblems that have been escalated from the IT service desk to the infrastructure team. The ideal candidate would be an IT infrastructure generalist who is happy to get their hands dirty! Occasional travel to sites may be required.Skills/Attributes Required:Essential
  • Networking fundamentals (subnetting, WAN, LAN, L1 L2 and L3 routing and switching)
  • Willingness to work outside of standard working hours (9-5) when required
  • The ability to manage and coordinate 3rd Party resource
  • Knowledge and experience of Hypervisor technologies VMWare, HyperV, Acropolis HV
  • Knowledge of Server Hardware technologies (Dell, HR, IBM)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Exchange
  • Knowledge of ITIL v4

  • Storage Technologies (SAN, NAS, and RAID)
  • HP/Aruba LAN switching
  • Avaya (now Extreme) LAN switching
  • Cisco LAN switching
  • Cisco Meraki Wireless - Advantageous
  • Mojo/Arista Wireless - Advantageous
  • O365 Administration
  • Networking monitoring tools
  • Structured cabling (Fibre/category 5/6/6a, patch panels, cabinets etc)
